Is This A Good Buy ?

Popped over from 'family' having a Carina E and Yaris on the drive at the moment.

However on the way home from work today I popped into my local Toyota dealer for a browse round and noticed a 1998 (UK S Reg) Celica SR in Black with FTSH and only 24, 000 miles.

The dealer said this car was a limted edition of only 500.

He wants £8900.

Basically know nothing about it other than I liked it's looks - can anyone with experience of the car give some good / bad points ?

Is the price about right ?

Was this model limited to 500 as the dealer claims ?

The SR did have an initial run of 500 but then demand was so great that TGB did a shed load more, but I cant tell you exactly how many?

Great looking car when it first came out, the dealer I worked in at the time couldnt sell enough of them. They were basically a special edition only available in the UK, to use up all the stock of 1.8 ST's before the VVTi model came out.

£8900 is its top end money, its trade price is around the 6 grand mark!

If its a nice clean car with a good history & if you really want it, then I bet you could get the dealer easily below the £8000 mark!!

I wouldnt buy the 1.8, lets face it if you want a sports car you need a sporty engine.

2.0 GT or GT4 i would go for.

A lot more power to play with, but if your really not after power go for the 1.8. But be warned the engine is a dog.
