at those miles, it could be time for more regular DIY servicing, oil changes, gear box oil change, coolant change, Battery test, new plugs, leads, distributor cap, consider re routing PCV to atmos and blank the inlet, injector cleaner, clean throttle body, check exhaust system and check ECU and all emmision sensors for operation.

at 100k it is time to check everything for correct operation and clean what can be cleaned fueling wise.

dont run engine de gunker through the block unless you are certain the engine is clean and has been regularly serviced with the correct fluifs and lubricants. if you arent sure, use a good fully synthetic grade of oil for engines with wear.

check all electrical connections in the engine bay and fuse boxes for corrosion, traet and grease an necessary.

check oil cooler pipes, slave cylinder etc etc for leaking oil.

etc etc.

This looks useful - can you just go into a bit more depth on what "rerouting the PCV to Atmos and blank inlet" is  - would this be a useful thing to do to my 110K mile 1.8ST??

Cheers

*edit*

OK so far I've got that the PCV is the Air Pump Check Valve:

"One-way valve that prevents hot exhaust gases from recalculating back through the air pump, protecting the air bypass system."

or it could be:

Positive Crankcase Ventilation:

"Recalculates partially-burned gases from the crankcase to the combustion chamber, to improve economy and reduce emissions while preventing buildup of sludge and corrosion."

Glad you asked that!

I thought I was the only one who was in the dark!

I've not got any real power loss on mine but it's done 90K so a list of things like this to do to ensure tip top running would be very useful.

Perhaps we (I say we :D) could produce from this a more general "Do these things to your Gen 6 @ 100k to maintain power" topic and have it pinned?

Thanks for that mate  it makes me look less stupid  That pinned topic sounds useful, I remember my Father in law doing something to his old car a few years back which involved rerouting some pipe so that hot air went back in or soemthing like that  He did that to get it to pass the MOT though! Never could quite understand what it did and why if it performs better like that don't they do it from the start???

I may drop carlosfandango a PM to make sure he reads the thread!
