Hi everyone, its me again. :)

Tried spray painting my tail lights and here are some pics. I ran into problems! The lights looked fined in the day time... lights1.jpg

But when it comes to nite time...damm...the light actually shined thru the paint, so the circles dun really look like circles....Now i need some advice. 1 of my friends asked me to put more coats of paint. A professional painter asked me put a coat of silver first before the red. Any other suggestions from you guys here on how to make my tail lights opaque where they should be?lights2.jpg

You'll need to paint them with primer or something similar first mate

Yeah,

from the pic it seems you're getting a lot of Light leakage through the plastic.

If you're happy with the colour, then mask off the circles you want and put more paint everywhere else.

A solid silver basecoat would have prevented this happening however.

( In one of the other forum sections there was a guy who tinted his rear lights by stretching a pair of tights round them. It looked really good too ! )

yeah..i actually had a few coats of red/oxide primer sprayed on before the paint. I also sanded down the primer....

i have lots of clear coat over the paint..can i just continue spraying over the clear coat? or should i sand everything down and start all over again? Also, if I were to spray a solid basecoat of silver...do i actually need to sand it down flat before spraying the red?

dont sand it down, use something like terps to get it off.

spray the lights with a black primmer first as black with soak up all the colours in the light spectrum hopefully, it was some thing like that in sicence. thats why black t-shirts get hot in the sun.

so now....black primer or silver paint? Do i need to sand and flatten the primer before puting on the color coats? I remember that primer is kinda rough...
