I've just bought a Toyota Celica from a mate, It's a 1989 4WD turbo'd engine. I've noticed that it is marked on the side of the engine with 3S-GTE. What I want to know is, is my car a st185, st160, gt4 etc.. I'm new to this car and have no idea. Please help.

If it's 4WD with a 3S-GTE it sounds like a GT4 to me but then I'm not a Celica expert...

The 3S-GTE is the same engine as the mR2 Turbo's and very easy to play with, there's an awful lot of mod's you can do to the car to increase the Bhp... You'll have a lot of ufn with that one :)

1990 was the change over year, so you should have a ST165 which is the earlier model & the later version ST185.

Thaks for the replies guys, so I suppose I own a Toyota Celica GT4 Turbo 4WD ST165. Wow, what a mouthful. Needed to know this cos' when I was looking for parts in the catalogues they were stating ST185, ST165 and etc..

One more thing, The car has not been driven for over a year now, is there any major things I need to look out for before I try to do anything with the car?

Just do a clean service for the car

Coolant change

Oil change along with the oil filter

Air filter

Check the brakes and the brake disks to see how much rust is on there.

Start with that and then once you have done.. give us a holler if you need some more help...
