Sports Exhausts

I am thinking of buying a sports exhaust (back box only) for my rolla and was just wondering how do you choose? As you cant tell what they sound like till there fitted? As I have heard lots of cars with them on and some of them just sound crap! Yet some sound really good. Imprezzas always sound brill!

Was also wondering what the pressurised "psss" sound is comeing from modifyed cars when changeing gears, is that the induction kit or a turbo?

If anyone can give me info back on decent sports exhausts would be greatfull!

Cheers

i was worried about the same thing on my car so i opted to go for a powerflow exhaust as they custon build you exhaust or backbox to your requirements. even when it was made up and fitted it was a little to lairy for my tastes so they did it again for free. scoobys sound good because they have a flat four engine which produces the unique sound you mention if you want your car to sound like a scooby get a scooby.

powerflow

p.s my full sysem cost £200 but they do do just your backbox

p.s the psss sound your talking about is a dump valve on a turbocharged car these are supposed to vent pressurised gasses from the turbo to stop it stalling whilst changing gear and it comes off boost but on most turbo cars they are a waste of time as they dont run enough boost and if you do need one you should get a recirculating one which doesnt make as much noise or waste boost pressure (i think correct me if im wrong peeps)
