Hi All, im a new member also im new to Toyotas, ive just bought a jap import GT4 cos they just look fantastic, its a 1990 G reg, and im just wondering about a few things about the car. Heres some questions:

If i go fast up through the gears the stick seems to make a'crunch' noise as i go up, if i go slow normal like theres no sound at all, it seems to be coming from just under the leather on the gear stick not the gear box.

Also it has the original large stereo took out and theres a gap cos its got a uk stereo in, is there a place where i can buy a facia to cover the hole up?

Also it needs some new brake discs as theres major wobble when i put the brakes on, anybody know a good place to get some cheap! basically a good place for all things toyota cheap! heh.

Oh the long gear stick is something im not fond of, is it possible to get a short one if so where?

Erm anything i should be looking out for or what i can do in the short term to take care of the car? like i said this is my first toyota so i have no clue about the cars whatsoever, this forum is my only help! thanks guys n gals!

Hi matey

First off, the gt4 owner's club is at www.gt4oc.com. Second, the GT4 mailing list is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gt-four-owners-uk

Both places are an invaluable resource for GT4 owners.

The shifter is a bit long on the ST185 model, but I believe the 92-93 facelift model had a shorter throw. Or the 94-on celica shifter is almost the same and can be fitted easily. TRD do a quickshift kit, including nice TRD knob but it's a little pricey (180 squids).

As far as brake discs go, don't buy anything cheap. The 185 has BAD brakes considering the power of the car and should be uprated if anything. Various companies do uprated pads/discs, try www.fensport.com, www.hypersr.com (good for any bits you need) or even somewhere like Demon Tweeks or similar (buy a horrible max power type magazine and read the adverts, don't need to read the mag!). btw fensport and hyper both do decent discounts to GT4OC members, it's only a tenner to join.

Gearbox - they do have a tendency to wear synchros, however the g/b is astonishingly strong, and will easily handly twice stock horsepower through it. If you are really concerned, take it to a gearbox specialist, NOT a toyota garage as Mr T know nothing about the GT4!!

hope that's of some use...
