hey has anyone ever had a timing belt snap if so is it true the engine just cuts out and no damage is caused?

i got told it was something to do with direct drive?

engine will cut out but valve damage is a bit of a gamble, people on here have had belts go with no damahe but theres are cases of it destroying engines, ive had a look through a friends book and the 3s g(t)e engine is an interferance engine at higher rpm.
