Fitting New Clutch To Gti

Going to fit a new clutch to my sons 1992 GTi tomorrow - anyone have any experience or run into any major problems?

fit one on my ae82,but the engine was out ;) only trouble i had was 2 bolts had snapped -but coz the engine was out it was easy :P

I won't have the luxury of having the engine out. Didn't get to do it over the weekend - weather was too nice so I had to dig the garden instead (sad, I know). Next weekend hopefully.

BTW which bolts snapped? Did they snap when loosening or tightening them?

the bolts holding the clutch too the fywheel ;) sure youll be fine sounds like you have a good idea

Maybe uprate the flywheel while you're in there. Fenny do them £265ish!

Finally got the new clutch installed last weekend. Took us two days - hey we're only amatuers. Haynes manual is good but there were places where it could be a bit more detailed. Also it's a pain being refered back and forth to different sections and chapters. It probably makes for easy writing of the book but not so easy for following the instructions. We also deviated from the Haynes procedures where we thought it would make life easier.

Perhaps you could do a "How-To" based on your experiences and put it in the Workshop Submissions section of the site?
