D4d Steering Wobble

Greetings!

I've recently purchased an Avensis D4D GS and I have a wobble/shimmy from the steering wheel between 50 and 80 mph, the front tyres were due to be replaced so they have been, plus balance and 4 wheel alignment, but I still have this wobble, I had it before the new tyres and now its even more noticeable with the new ones. The car has done 25,000 miles and is 2003/52, has anyone got any ideas or is it back to Toyota for a warranty job.

Advice greatly appreciated.

Might be the tracking or could be warped brakes discs causing the vibration.

The tracking has recently been done, as regards warped discs, it only happens at certain speeds 55mph, 65mph, 70mph and I can drive through it, it is non existent over 80mph and below 50mph. It seems like a standard balancing problem, but it has been double checked and the balance is spot on. I hope it isnt the discs.

Did you have the rears balanced too? I had the wobble at 15000 = got the fronts blanced, still there - got the rears blanced., all ok.

Thats interesting. I just assumed wobble through the steering wheel would be front balance only. The rears havent been balanced since new, so yes I will try that. Thanks

Let us know how you get on. I was a bit suprised too, but my tyre tech said it was quite common for out-of-balance rears to affect the car. It's a cheap fix - if it works!
