Can people post pics of the phase 1 and phase 2 Yarii and explain the differences for me. I tried doing a search but did not come up with what I was looking for.

I want to better familiarize myself with them. And no squabbling about which is better, since we all know it's the bB! ;) j/k

Thanks all!

Ok - P1 front lights.....

P2 front lights - teardrop lights

Rear lights are the same apart from the top strip on the P1 is white and the P2 is red all over!

Bumpers are slightly different too!

Me either.

It's hard to beleive people would be that passionate about one or the other if they are about the same except for headlights.

Now I can definitely see the mk2 Yaris styling being polarizing. I'm still undecided about it myself, though I really like the interior.

Just to add also, the interiors also are different - the P1 I believe is grey and the P2 is black...

The P2 is also toughened up too, making it slightly safer.

I think a lot of people think the P2 headlights are "girly", but I think they add something special to the package - I only drove a P1 on a test drive so I cant really remember all the differences, but there arent very many.....

Where the interiors are different colours they are also more modern in the P2 - the P2 has a square fuel gauge and the P1 is circular/oval shaped.

This is a P2 Interior (taken of my 1st Yaris):

Also on the P1 the surround around the LCD screen isnt as square either, the corners seem to be more rounded, and the air vents stick out more, the P2 ones close flat if you dont want them open.

Like DA said the colour of the lights are different on both phases, and the bumper on the P2 has a visible insert, the P1 has smooth bumpers..some of the basic models have the big black bumpers on them, some of them are colour coded:

Essentially though, the P1 and P2 is the same car, just with a few tweaks in the P2! The new P3/Mk2 Yaris is a brand new type of Yaris!

I just feel the P2 looks sportier with the teardrops - I mean come on - whos gonna deny that Kimis T-Sport is absolutely fabulous - because it is - best darn looking Yaris on the forums!

Saying that, a Yaris is a Yaris at the end of the day! All of them are super!

A few other bits...

P1 - roof aerial is loooong at mounted at front.

P2 - roof aerial is very small (only coz wire is wrapped around it in a spiral!) and mounted at back.

P1 - lower front of car is 'rounder' and only has the central radiator grille.

P2 - also has two dummy 'grilles', one either side of real grille. These contain foglights in all but the T2 and T3. These give a more aggressive front to the car in my opinion (probably to negate the teardrop 'girly' lights!).

P1 - No corner bumper strips (unless you add the optional stick on ones).

P2 - corner strips inset into bumpers and colour coded on all but T2 and T3.

P1 - Instrument 'podule' is a separate moulding.

P2 - moulded into top part of dashboard.

P1 - oval interior button switches.

P2 - rectangular interior buttons.

Ah come on - you missed the most importnat thing ...

There are loads more mods available for the P1!

yes i'm finding that out for myself :P

Yeah, i don't think the rear of the P2 T-Sport looks as good as the P1 either! The foggers are in a different place and theres a lot of Plastic looking stuff on the back, much prefer the P1 T-Sport!

Gotta love that P1 goodness! I like my bumpers because they don't have those dodgy plastic bump guards on them, i've seen a few P1 CDX's that do! I also like how the controls on the P1 are rounded off and not blocky. (Pic to follow when my FTP server decides to play nice!)

One feature of the P2 i'd really like on mine is the "Range" to next fill-up counter!

Personally I disagree about the P1 and P2s being similar. We have one of each and to us the P2 feels far more refined in terms of comfort, noise, ride and handling than the P1.

Yep, having owned both (and still owning a P2) I can say that the P2 is far more refined with abetter quality interior...

Frankly, those who keep on going "P1 is much better" are really just jealous :P

;)

PS P2 also have a light in the boot and, on the 3-doors, "memory" folding front seats - both very useful changes

Do both have the digital gauges?

Do all Yaris models have that, or is it an option?

Just curious because that is not offered on the Echo here. Personally I do not like digital gauges. They are OK, but personally I love the old-fashioned sweep of the needle, especially the tachometer. I refuse to buy a car without an analog tachometer and speedometer and a manual transmision. It's just the way I'm built, I guess.

I had a Subaru XT (AKA: Alcyone) a few years back and it was a fun car, but I detested the digital speedometer and tach and swore I'd never have another.

No, in the UK the T-Sport is the only model not to have the digital gauges. Personally nI think they're great. They're not like normal digital gauges because the electronics lie flat in the top of the instrument binnacle and are then reflected in a mirror. From the driver's seat you see the reflection in the mirror. Its very clever and gives the impression that the gauges are somewhere just behind the passenger-side headlight. The impression of distance and their positioning makes it very easy to change the focus of your eyes from the road to the gauges and back.

I'm so used to them that when I'm driving other cars I keep trying to check my speed in the digital clock!

The Yaris digital guage is quite probably the most sophisticated digital guage ever! Many have tried to copy it..... (Citroen)..... but they have failed miserably!

Everyone who comes into my car is like....."where are your dials!" I show them the digiguage and they are like "OMG - that is soooo cooool!"

Even my brother thinks its cool! And thats saying something!

In japan, the 1.3 and 1.5 RS both come with analogue guages. I have also seen a few Automatic Vitz that have analogue guages. No tachometer in the autos though

U sure the better one isnt a "Made in Japan" jobby??

It's interesting to see just how many views there are on the P1 and P2 Yarii! At the end of the day, its down to personal preference... I know that ultimatley they have the same underlying technology... Maybe what's put me off is the fact i went from driving a high spec P1 model (which the CDX is before any of you start flaming me ;) ) to the most basic P2 model known to man as a courtesy car! It just didnt feel as nice to drive or even just to sit in... and this was 4 years newer than mine!!!

Honest, it isn't! My first P2 was Japanese (RIP) - I waited 12 weeks for it to built and everything, but it had a couple of rattles with this French one doesn't have. And the steeringwheel was always a few degrees off squint so that the indicators didn't always self-cancel.

No, this French one is better built

Hmm ok...

The steering wheel was off on mine but it was just the tracking! The indicator thing tho, i've noticed but you get used to it, i think the first notch is too far away from centre, so if you do a shallow turn or don't straighten up perfectly (EG a slight bend after a corner) it doesnt cancel!

I prefer the P2 (front lights n rear bumper lights) but at the moment i will barely be able to afford a P1 in a year! I better start saving already! I only 16 at the moment and am hoping to get a Yaris this christmas (great having an older brother as he did all the begging to get his car the xmas before, but all i have to do is say "he got it"! :D ) My parents said they will give me £3000 towards one but even the most basic model P1's seem to be £4500+

You should just be greatful for what you got! :P
