Hi, just bought a 2001 vvti and the toyota serice report of January 05 states a noisey serpentine belt.

It does sound a litle like a squeeky mouse under the bonnet!

Should I be worried?

Should I take it to the garage?

Thnx

Quite common to have a noisy belt on the Gen 7 apparently Don`t know why but there have been a few mentions of it.. Get it changed It`s not going to break the bank if you do it yourself. If the car has a warranty on it, get the place that sold it to change it . I dont think there are any issues with tensioners on these cars...... Anyone?

Wondering why Toyota didn`t change it. Cant be all that much to worry about.

It's most likely to be idler pulley bearing. It is quite common on the gen 7. Even though your car is out of manufacturer's warranty, you might be able to talk them into doing it for free (or free part, you pay for the labour). Otherwise, I would get an independent garage to fix it (or DIY). Shouldn't be expensive. I think a new pulley is ~£40, plus 45 minutes labour.

I'm on my third serpentine belt on my Gen7 in 40k miles...second and third both fitted under warranty. Cost of part through Toyota was £27 for the belt...don't know about the pulley though.

It's an ancilliary belt though, and has nothing to do with engine timing or anything (which is what was worrying me), but it does run pumps and stuff so I suppose its still pretty important.
