Intercooling A 2.5td Surf

Ive been looking into intercooling my 91 2.4td Hilux Surf

My engine is strong and well looked after and is showing no signs of the dreaded cracked head that 2.4's suffer.

I know it can be done but dont know what to go for a top mounted intercooler which would require cutting a hole in the bonnet and fittind a scoop

or

fitting a front mounted intercooler but this require some extensive pipe work and incresed turbo lag as there would be more volume with compressed air from the turbo.

Although i dont think an intercooler would increase power dematicly in therory it should give better MPG due to more air which would provide a more efficent burn in therory

Think this question is one for Andy as he seems to be the top man for knollage when it comes to Surfs

Not a mod that I know much about but I can point you in the right direction of others that have done it.

Also one of the members of the Uk Surf forum has done it on a 3.0ltr .

Cheers Andy just what i was looking for

Hi lads, just ring Stevo from Engine Co Ltd on 0161 476 6144. He is the engine builder who all the lads off the Hilux Surf Forum use. He just built me an engine and intercooled it for me.

He is simply the very best engineer on these vehicles that exists.

Regards

Paul.

Are hilux bonnets the same as landcruiser bonnets? My landcruiser has top mounted intercooler with ducts through the bonnet to feed it....
