Scratch Polish And Minor Dent Removal

Hey all

Some :censor: builder has managed to splash concrete splots down one side of my car - I managed to get most of them off, but I've scratch up the paint getting one big one on the rear door  - it looks very light so I'm assuming that Meguairs ScratchX would take those scuff-scratches out OK (although I'm open to opinions on that one).

My real problem is that there is one big 5mm diameter chunk of concrete (at least thats what it looks like) stuck to the front wing at the top (just next to the bonnet) and I can't get it loosened. Not only that but at the same time as the concrete appeared a small dent has appeared a few inches from that splatter of concrete, again just next to the bonnet on the narrow bit of outer wing that is horizontal :ffs: - does anyone have a solution to getting concrete off car bodywork, or know how to remove dents like that?! If the dent had been on the bonnet then I could have pushed it out easy from under the bonnet, but I can't see any way of getting behind the outer wing up at bonnet level - I could try and pull it out with one of those suction cup things, but it would have to be a very wierd size and shape suction cup to work on that area, which I have never seen. I also don't really know if those suction things actually work either!

I'm open to any suggestions/recomendations of companies or products or any baldrick style cunning plans on this one :) It's just irritating the heck outta me ever time I come out to the car, especially since I wasn't even in the car when it all happened!

Thanks in advance!

I would be inclined to take it to a body shop and make the builder pay for any repair needed as it's there fault, why should you have to live with it. Bear in mind also that concrete has loads of chemicals that may do long term damage to your paint work, so may want to let some specialist take a look for that reason.

I aggree with VVTl you are probley better to get it done in a paint shop. If the dent is a sharp dent then the sucker (thingy) wont be able to get the dent out anyway. I believe they drill a very small hole in the wheel arch and push it with a rod from the inside. As for the concrete hopfully the paint wont be to affect as the lacker should protect it- but I have a seen some great products for remove scraches and dirt. I work for honda the only product they will use is 3M. They do a whole range of scrach, dirt and polish. I seen the stuff in action its s**t hot.

Its well pricey but its worth a shot

Hope this helps

Rob :)

Thanks for the replies - unfortunately I don't have any proof of who splashed me with concrete, but I am sure it must have been my neighbours who are doing major building work at the moment - I also saw a ****ty concrete covered lorry parked down the road a few days later, with a bloke getting tools out of it to work on their house.

Anyway - the dent is actually quite minor. Once I cleaned the area up, I could see it properly - its just a slight thumb sized dimple of the metal. The paint isn't broken anyway, so I'll leave it for the moment and when I'm feeling flush I might find out about having it pushed out :)

I finally got the last of the concrete splots off the car the other day, without mashing up the paintwork anymore. I think the weather may have made my job easier by softening it up, which is what I was hoping for :) I did finally find some ScratchX and have used this on the scratches I made trying to get another bit of concrete off, and it has worked to quite an impressive extent - you can only see the scratches now if you shine a light along the paintwork, which picks up the shadows of the scratches, and even then they look much improved. I was wondering actually, whether at this stage, if I wax over the top of the scratch with some good quality wax, this will fill in and smooth over the top of the scratches, or whether I still need to use an abrasive to take off more of the clearcoat in order to get a smooth finish. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Alex
