God!

ive just had to buy some genuine toyota parts through a dealer for my AE82 GT.

I needed 3 wheelarch extensions, as the ones on the car were shot. i managed to source some 2nd hand at £15 each, but one of those turned out to be as bad as the one on the car, therfore i needed to buy a new one, as i could not find another anywhere.

I also needed a new scuttle panel cover, as i have just had the windscreen taken out to get the surround repaired, and it had rusted at one end and fell apart when they took it off - there was no point in gettin a 2nd hand one, as they would all be in a similar condition.

the arch extension will cost me £39 + VAT

the scuttle will cost me £96 + VAT

It's no wonder there's not many of these things left! :crybaby:

BTW, im never sure whether to post here or in classic toyota - does 1985 constitute classic? :P

I priced up a replacement sunroof panel for my ae92 cuz its done the usual and rusting out £265+vat

the guy in the parts dept didn't sound to impressed when i said my that i could probably buy another car for that

how the hell do they expect to get rid of what is basically obselete stock at thopose prices, there must be hundereds of corollas and stuff out there with rusty sunroofs but no-ones going to buy a new one for that price

:( :( :(

Exactly! I mean what do they do with all these ancient parts, that no one wants!?

thankfully, my sunroof had only rusted slightly at one corner, and only surface rust, so it was repairable. However, the previous owner complained to toyota about it at some point, so i think this is the 2nd ot 3rd one fitted!

the ancient parts probably sit around in the factory going rusty too !

sunroofs can be re-skinned really easily if you have a metal folder :)

yeah i've always looked at 'other' makes parts before stumping up for Toyota parts as so many are just 'universal' its worth walking the streets with your eyes 'open' sometimes.....

one all time classic has to be the door handles on a lotus Elite (mk1 +2) they're horrible chrome jobbies and are exactly the same as the old door handles from Austin Marina's and Allegro's even with the same part no.s :o
