I thought a puff was a !Removed! and a poof was a homosexual?

Diddycoy-Pikey-Gypo = Um, that is like what Brad Pitt was in Snatch, right?

We don't really have that exact subculture here, but the closest thing would be a transient or a hobo I think. That or redneck. Something like that. A redneck transient with his own trailer.

Oh, theres one!

Caravan ------------------------------ camper or trailer

Without getting into too much detail . . I'm not sure an American term will exist for dogging.

It basically invloves a degree of co operation between persons inside the car being intimate and persons outside of the car watching the events inside the car.

If the yanks have the word 'Voyeur' then that probably covers it.

BTW - is 'yanks' offensive (don't mean to be).

I remember someone telling me that "yank" was initially coined as a derogatory phrase to describe North Americans, way back in the distant past.

I think nowadays its just used as friendly shorthand for 'american', as is the cockney rhyming slang offshoot of yank which is a bit more mocking and a bit less subtle; septic tank or just septic. :)

EDIT: Ahhh the wonders of publicly funded broadcasting - I just found this on the BBC website(!) http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/A649 if anyone is interested in cockney slang

Only slightly off topic but.......

why do most US toilet cubicles have small doors that enable those who so desire to look under and/or over the doors? Always struck me as odd? Do they have a door tax based on the size of the door? :D

I don't know if any of you have read "Made in America" by Bill Bryson. Its possibly a slightly more scolarly work than his travel writing, but its an easy read all the same. Its all about the genesis and evolution of the American language and one of the most interesting bits is where he cites many alleged americanisms are actually "Old English" terms that have remained alive in the US but have died out here.

Another book by him on languages is "Mother Tongue" about the English language as a whole...

That confuses me as much as it does you.

No flippin idea.

Fortunately I have no public defecation anxieties, so come on and have a look if you must, people.

I know some people that will drive home from work like a maniac just to jettison some cargo because they hate public rest rooms that much, but I've never had that problem.

We have crumpets here, but they aren't that popular.

"English Muffins" are popular though, that's a somewhat close approximation of a crumpet, but not exactly. Crumpets are a bit more substantial.

We also use crumpet as a way to describe people too as well -

Ie.... Check out that guy over there - aint he a bit of crumpet! Means good looking btw!

Why do Americans eat pancakes for breakfast smothered in syrup? We only have pancakes one day of the year!

Hehehehe

Well we don't eat pancakes for breakfast every day.

It's more of a Sunday or Saturday morning thing, if you're lucky enough to have a mom that makes them once a week.

Most of us only have them when having breakfast at a restaurant.

We love pancakes and waffles, what can I say?

I mean, we have a restaurant CALLED "The International House of Pancakes" ffs!

tights (what ladies wear) - hosier (or something)?

inbred working class oik - britney spears.

p.s oik is a northern slang term for an educationally challenged person usually from a quiet backwater area of countryside.

p.p.s backwater is a term for a place in the middle of nowhere.

p.p.p.s you got a job yet scionic! :D

I thought panty hose were tights?

As in Julia Robers in Pretty Woman

"Oh honey - I got a runner in my panty hose..... oh, I'm not wearing panty hose"
