Spam E-mails

Hi Folks,

Just thought i'd mention this as it seems to be getting a bit out of hand now! I've just been in the spam e-mail filter at work because a student had lost an e-mail as he was stupid enough to send some work in with the subject "djklsdjfk" and no body text!

While i was in there, i did a count of all the items in there, and it came back with 12,478... not too bad you might think? That's from the 4th of April!!!!!!!

Does anyone else not think that this e-mail spam traffic is getting stupid?

P.S if anyone's interested, these are our current SpamStats - you can see just how daft its getting!

On an average day the college email system receives around 5700 spam/junk emails, 70 emails with viruses and 670 legitimate emails. Therefore only about 10% of emails into the college are legitimate. We've had 1.2 million spam emails since August and stopped over 14,000 emails containing viruses

One of my customers gets 1 million e-mails a month we did a stat on it 75% of that was spam or a virus lots and lots of viagra e-mails

The place where I am today they have about 1000 mails a day that are spam or have a virus on them. These :censor: kids signing up for anything grrr

Yeah i know, as long as they aren't getting through theres not really an issue.

My point is, the amount of internet resources which must be consumed by spam/junk/virii must be phenomenal! Just seems crazy that those are the stats for one organisation, and there must be thousands of organisations with similar or higher stats!

You think people would find something better to do with their time than start this lot rolling!

We get so much Viagra spam at work we joke that the MD is requesting it in secret....

Its just WRONG!

trick i use is forward all mail to google... they filter it and then i pull it back out of google 95% spam free.

google collects 1200 spams a week.. i would be hanging myself if i had that coming into my inbox!
