There will be people with more knowledge along in a bit.

I've got one so I know what you mean, but the amount of money you spend will not make a significant increase.

I know these are all available, basics first, Air filter, Exhaust, de-cat pipe, or save your money and look for a G6R or Facelifted SR both have 1.6 engines and 6speed boxes, straight away you've gone from 83BHP to 107-109BHP I think without the hassle. have a look at Fensport there are some others but they always spring to mind first.

do you know if a G6R engine will go straight in my car? If I could find a engine would it be worth the hasstle?

:huh::eek:

The G6R engine (1.6 4A-FE) is the same as ANY 1992-2002 AE101/AE111 1.6 model... That's something to think about. Another more torquey option, if you can find it, is the 1.8 engine out of the AE102 GXi model. Otherwise, the options are from Japan. The 133 bhp 1.3 4E-FTE turbo out of the EP82/91 Starlet GT/Glanza V is the most direct swap, and then the more common 20-valve 4A-GE or supercharged 4A-GZE.

if I was gonna go with the cost & hassle of engine swaps/conversions I'd opt for the bigger conversions like 1.8, 1.6 20V & 1.6 Superchargers.

But as RED suggested starlet/glanza is the closest swap and you might be able to keep the 6speed box too.

and the 'keeping the box' bit is a guess, not a fact.

I might try and put a Supra engine in it and tune it to 1000bhp :wacko: . I would be the fast corolla in the world - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :lol:

The 4E-FTE makes quite a case for itself though. Simple mods, plus 5E-FHE cams can have it reliably pushing 200 bhp+ at the wheels. I've seen a number of dynos on them... they not only pack quite a punch, especially for their size, but are also quite robust (we're talking the 4A-GZE sort of robustness here!). At that power level, the 6-speed box may not quite be up to the task of getting all that power to the ground. Your box is a C161 or 162 I believe. The G6R/VVT-i SR has one, the G6 has the other. Check what code(s) you have under A/TM: on the firewall plate to be sure. From the information I've found on them, the C52 is more up to the task. The C60 in the 1999+ Celica is known to be a bit stronger. For reference, the AE101/AE111 cars in Japan equipped with the late blacktop 20V engines used the C160 gearbox.

I have to play the 7A-FE's advocate here, since that's what my car came with. :) The 7A's strong suit is not all-out power. Out of the box, the 7A-FE produced 118 bhp @ 6000 r/min in the AT200 Celica ST and AE102 Corolla GXi models. Economy-minded Lean Burn AT191/AT211 Carina E/Avensis models produced between 105 and 110 bhp, peaking somewhere between 5200 and 5800. More importantly, peak torque (114 to 117 lb-ft) for all but the 118 bhp models came at 2800 r/min, extremely low for a smallish economy engine. Even the 118 bhp models produced within 1 lb-ft of their peak (occuring at 4400 r/min) at the low 2800 r/min. Meaningful, useable torque can be had from just off idle, allowing you to drive along and keep the revs low, making it possible to achieve outstanding fuel economy in normal driving. Mine has averaged just over 36 mpg (Imp. gallons) over the past 37,000 miles (I keep a detailed spreadsheet), rarely returning less than 40 mpg at motorway speeds and topping 50 mpg twice. This, and I dare anyone to call me a light-footed driver. :) Of course, I've droned on about this for far too long, so I shall end it here.
