Guys and Gals,

I have a Mr2 j reg in white. Only recently purchased. However the side strips are black, was this standard on the early models?? Looking about it seems to be although i have seen a few with colour coded.

Any ideas..?

Also can i get them colour coded cheaply?

The Car is a UK model

Yes mate the rev 1 models (up to 1992) had black strips, they were colour coded from 92 onwards.

If your handy with a spray can you could do it yourself

and save yourself a bodyshop bill of anything upto £100

they were not color coded until the Rev3's mate. so late 1993 and upwards. my early 93 Rev2 has a darker red then the rest of the body, so they're "semi-color coded"

yeah, thats my understanding as well (its how i distinguish cars with aftermarket alloys)....

rev1 - black trim

rev2 - darker shade of same colour than body

rev3+ - coded

Not strictly true... my 1994 Rev3 in Steelmist comes with bright silver strips as standard... but I got them colour coded.

Is yours Steelmist too then???

Steelmist Silver had bright silver strips... but was the only one this way... apart from the Anniversary edition.

Mines a late 1993 rev 3 and it has silver strips like Jesus said.......

I'm keeping mine that way though as it matches the wheels nicely :P

or...

...but haven't got any digital pics of mine before getting them painted.

In general though, Toyota did indeed start colour coding everything from 1993 onwards...
