Mk1 Paint Match For Red

Hi.

Just done a great job tidying up my not too bad rear arches on 1989 Red Mk1.

Even the paint finish using aerosol cans was very good.

Problem is the colour just aint right. I used Halfords Toy Red 3E5.

Anybody achieved a good colour match using off the shelf cans on a Red Mk1 of this age?

Ta,

Mark

Hi Mark.

I also read your post and the replies on IMOC.

It may sound daft, but did you get the right colour for the paint code on your car? I counted 16 different shades of red on the list of MKI paint codes here:

MKI Paint Codes

98% of the time the colours in the Halfords range match up quite well, but the other 2% of the time they don't.

When I was spraying the wings on my corolla GTI for the second time (040 Super White) the paint in one of the four tins I bought was a different shade to the rest and it made the wing look well out of place. I landed up buying another tin and going over it again.

I re-did the wings another couple of times each, and each time the paint matched up perfectly.
