It's the 1.8 3T-C (I think) 3 door hatch. Any info or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

I can't comment on the '1.8' engine as we did not have this engined variant (officially) in Britain.

What we had were the 1300 engine which was fitted in the Sedans / Saloons and estates/wagon (top two and bottom) and the 1600 engine in the 'liftback', thats what Toyota called it (the red one in the middle) and the SR Coupe (the white one, 4th down and seperate picture). The 1.6 when fitted to the SR coupe only also had twin carburettors.

The whole 'range' seems to be generally refferred to as the 'KE70' model range although the Liftback and coupe are TE72 and TE71 ...I think!

What I have listed is only what was available in Britain. However the KE70 range was one of the most 'mixed and matched' range of Corollas ever as in different parts of the world there was a 1.8 (which you mention) and the twincarb engine for the SR Coupe was also put in a Sedan 4 door for the Jap home market. Also there was fuel injected versions both coupe, liftback and Sedan so badged as GT's ...even the Sedan had a 'performance / GT' version (Yes  a 'Sedan' GT ...hmmm  ) ...see below

Sorry it's only the picture from a model kit

Mechanical parts are still available and body panels such as front wings and sills are still 'stamped out' by patern part manufacturers. Rust seems evident in most usual areas as any old car (sills, wings etc.) but if buying the liftback there is one area to pay particular attention to, its the area at the top of the rear wing/panel where it joins the black 'bar' that splits the two rear side windows.

In the far east these cars (mainly the sedan, beleive it or not!) are very popular with modifiers and quite a few now have 4AGE engines in them.

I like them and the diversity of the range (bodily and engine wise) was a very clever move from Toyota.

Upon closer in spection (popping his hood) we found that there was a plate listing all of the information on his car. As it turns out, he has the 3T-C (1.8) in it. Which apparently is a beefy engine. Performance parts can still be found for it. Kinda crazy.

Only signs of bad bad rust are on his driver door near the bottom/skirt. It's rusting through, and the door will either have to be fix by a machine shop or replaced all together. He's really excited about outting some work into it.

Pics to come.
