I've had a funny noise from the gearbox over the last couple of weeks. Had a mechanic look at it today and he said that the Differential bearings have gone, anybody know how much this is to fix???

Hello,

I just joined this forum, so I'm catching up... I recently purchased a 97 celica gt convert w/ low miles but no warranty. Didn't notice any differential noise when I bought it, but I didn't drive it very far during the test drive. I just got back from a long road trip, however, and started to notice a grinding noise after it's been driven at highway speeds for some time. Goes away again when it's cold.

I'm guessing I have the same problem as you. I also realized (after buying the car) that the front tires are mismatched, and the differential was overfilled. Maybe the combination blew the bearings. Did you get an estimate from anyone of how much this is to fix?

Thanks,

Brian Richardson
