Dunno Chris, but I know that my intercoler is the same as the one on the Yaris Turbo.

O.k ill look after but I would not think so

Doesn't a Diesel turbo work differently?? They are a completely different kind of engine in the way they operate!!!

Don't think its possible mate!

Only difference I know of is that diesel exhaust is cooler than gasoline exhaust, which ensures turbo longevity. I know this is why you see variable vane turbochargers on diesels, but not on gasoline engines (at least since the 1980's) because the more delicate mechanism doesn't hold up as well under high temperatures.

I don't know what Toyota diesels use (since Toyota won't :censor: ship them here) but VW and Audi TDI uses the Garrett VNT variable nozzle turbos.

My point was that a diesel engine uses compression and a petrol engine uses ignition... Thats why i thought that they might use a different turbo system too!

Well a turbo is a turbo. Odds are Toyota doesn't even make the turbo that is used. It's probably a Mitsubishi or Garrett unit and most likely used on several other cars/applications.

The question is would the manifold and the rest fit. Answer is I have no idea. It depends partially on whether or not the 1.4 is an NZ family motor and what, if any, elements of construction it shares with the other petrol engines in the Yaris-based cars.

I don't think it would save you any effort or money in turbocharging a petrol powered Yaris, if that's what you're digging at. :(

Just get the full diesel. Diesel is better anyway man!!!

Ah, I see.

As far as I know there aren't any major differences between diesel and gas turbos. Except for temperatures, like I said. Most gasoline engine turbos have more provisions for cooling the turbocharger than an equivalent diesel would because of the much higher exhaust temps.

what you mean???, you don`t think there is any point in putting a turbo on any yaris or taking a turbo off a D4D and putting it onto a TS or any Yaris????

then it wont fit, we need a turbo designed for the NZ family

You need a turbo manifold designed for an NZ probably, yeah.

The turbocharger is fine, it's just the piping/manifold and intercooler that are required.

Incidentally, how does that top mount intercooler get its job done with the bonnet overhead, Alan? If I were lucky enough to have one, the first mod I'd do would be an intake scoop right above that thing. You'd probably pick up +5 hp on a cold day, man!

There's extra ducting under the bonnet that takes all of the air from the upper grille and channels it through a flexible gasket onto the intercooler. That basically makes the whole of the grille between my headlights an air scoop for the intercooler.

I ain't chopping into the metalwork on my car and the scoop would be only slightly off-centre so it would always look as if it had been put on badly.

The diesel RAV-4 has a bonnet scoop for exactly this reason.

what alen said is right, its not that big of an intercooler so the scoop behind the grill is more than big enough the land cruiser has the same job its nice and neat and does the job. a scoop wood look a little out of place on the yaris, but the scoop on the D4D ravs suit the car, i like the look of the D4D ravs. Toyota does not go over the top with there cool air feeds for cars in gereral the Avensis D4D and Corolla 116bhp D4D have the intercooler behind the fog lamp in the bumper on the passanger side. but i think to sum up this the Turbo off a D4D yaris will not work on a TS without a little work.
