Managed to get a good quote for a Starlet GT Turbo Import From Elephant.co.uk so i've been looking for japanese car auctions on Google.

I dont know whether to trust them with sending it over, is there no hidden costs?

All the Starlet GT turbos are going for well cheap! whats the deal?

I want 1 Bad and dont know how to go about getting one.

Any Suggestions for a good website/company?

Has any1 got 1 imported from Japan instead of buying 1here that can help?

Cheers

Dude, you've already got one post about this, why have you started another one?

Just cos i changed my mind in the last post and thot folk would assume i was no longer interested in importing.

Plus i havnt recieved any info on importing yet

All i can suggest is you talk to somebody like www.karma-import.com (think the address is correct). They will sort all shipping etc out for you, they specialise in importing high performance japanese cars, but can't see why they won't be able to sort the starlet out for you. drop them a line and see what you can sort out. Otherwise, sort it yourself, stick it in a container and ship it over to the uk. more hastle for you, but should work out cheaper. if im not mistaken, it takes about 6-8 weeks for it to arrive from japan. Cheers Bud, i'll def look into that.

have you imported any cars from Japan?

Posted

In cyprus they're imported directly from used car showrooms, so no hastle, but you can ask them to find a specific one for you and they'll find it.

unless you know what your doing, get a cvompany to import it for you.

i sorted my glanza out myself. and i would never do it again, its so much hastle, id rather pay someone to do it

if you want a good GT, talk to trevor at japspecimports.com. he only has the best GTs.

You also have to SVA it (basically a more intense MOT). To pass this you have to have KPH converted to MPH, rear foglight fitted and i think a couple of other things. After that i believe it has to go through a normal MOT aswell so you have a certificate. Then it needs to be registered and taxed. I suppose what I am trying to say, is get another company to do it for you!

yo mk, you got your glanza yet?

Do you recommend any1?

Do they do it for cheap?

been looking at www.batfa.com and they are pretty good, they say they arrange the shipment and documentation through their shipping agent. that make any sense to you?

The point is is little ****s thrashing the ****** out of the car before i buy it!

i want a relativly new 1 cos all the 1s going around have high milage!!!

OK thats 1 website the guy gave me, but they dont have any so i had to enquire about them getting 1 in.

well i know what you mean, but id try look around locally (i.e. england) first, as itd be a lot cheaper than importing it. look for low mileage examples that have no signs of " youth abuse " as in any modifications, go round to the persons house and ask for a test drive and if your still not convinced, get an rac check on it or whatever.

and when looking around, try looking for examples owned by " mature " drivers, and read the description...you'll be able to tell the difference between a youth written one and a mature written one....if it says how the car is " fast, handles great " etc....then its a young person that thrashed it, if its " reliable, good speed, never been abused / thrashed... " then its a mature dude....well...in theory :P

if you dont find one you dont like, either get one imported, or go to a jap specialists thatll import it for you

i told you where to get one...

Nah, not yet bud. Is going through SVA over the next couple of days. Also having an alarm fitted. The guy from newera also noticed that one of the front coilovers was weeping oil slightly so that is also going to be rebuilt free of charge. Everything is in full swing now so hopefully will be ready to collect in the next 2-3 weeks. I cant wait!!

Ive got enough bits ready to go on the car to build one from scratch!! Well, not quite but ya know what i mean! HKS SSQV, apexi power intake, toyota rear strut brace, clear front lenses, Nomad racing pillar pod, Defi control unit 2 and defi BF boost gauge are all waiting to go on. Am going to order a BF exhaust gas temp gauge this payday aswell. Is gonna be a busy time fitting bits when it arrives!

simon69er: How much are you willing to pay? Im importing my glanza with www.neweraimports.com. They are more expensive than other places but are regarded as being the best in the business. Basically you get what you pay for. From what ive heard, mines in like new condition and has quite a few good mods already done. Is worth enquiring with them. The director Miguel whos over in Japan and buys the cars is cool so fill in a form on the website and have a chat to him bout it

Hi I am willing to pay around £2500 max cos i have another car (saxo VTR) to support and want the option of both cars, obviosly the Starlet would be my plaything.

U think this is too little an amount to get 1?

I would say that that isnt enough to import a decent one. Im not sure on the going rates of GT's but would doubt that you would find a gooden for that sorta money. Why dont you sell the saxo?! youll be eating VTR's for breakfast in you starlet!!

Posted

i gotta agree, i dont think your gonna find a decent gt for that money.

u may be able to get one with a fair few miles on the clock for that, but i dont think your gonna find a mint one for £2500 max. if you could push to £3000 u may be able to find a bargain that just needs some tlc.

If car over 10 years old:

buy car in Japan

have sent to docks

have loaded on ship

wait 4 weeks

have car unloaded and put through customs

pay customs duty

pay vat

transport car from docks to garage

have rear fog lamp fitted

get MoT

get insurance certificate based on chassis number

take MoT, insurance documents and import certificates to DVLA

submit registration application

wait 2-5 days

get tax disc, get number plates made,

drive car

if under 10 years

whilst car is in transit book SVA test

have car fitted with immobiliser and convert to meet SVA requirements.

Pay a lot more for the privilidge

You can import a car up to 1996 quite easily, after that it becomes much more expensive.

Safest bet: Buy a car already in the UK, or get a reputable import company to do it for you. You pay them for the import process, but you won't loose any sleep over it and all you do is turn up and drive away.

I've imported several cars inlcuding Starlets, Seras and Impreza 22B's

Cheers for the info, seen 1 on a website for £2350 but it doesnt say the milage so i take it it will be heaps!!!

Just means i'l have to get a student loan to get that extra grand!

PS need the saxo fo getting around until i get the starlet, even if its in Britain it'll take a while to get to sunny Aberdeen where im from
