I use mine a lot for business and the aircon is a must - once you've had a car ith aircon you wont want one without - that simple.

MrT fitted air con to the Blue for me yesterday, free of charge tho - thankfully, it does cost around £900 otherwise tho, doesnt it?

I had it on briefly when driving home from MrT yesterday, and also on this morning briefly driving to work and it's well nice, makes the car feel like a fridge on wheels! Obviously will feel the benefits more when it is sunny but I already love it. Another thing is that my car sits on the top floor of a multi storey car park everyday, and in the Summer that means that she gets sun on her for hours as there is no cover at all - my old T3 used to be like a sauna, and it's not very attractive driving covered in sweat.

So yeah definately recommend it, it was also one of the reasons why I upgraded from the T3 too.

Yep i love mine too! Really does feel nice when its sticky weather! Also has its advantages in winter because it demists the entire car in SECONDS, literally! You can also run Air-con hot so it doesn't have to be cold while its demisting!

I'll never go back willingly to a car without now!!

Another vote for aircon  .

Although you get a small hit on your miles per gallon when using it, the advantages are far superior

1) Nice and cool in the summer

2) Demists all your windows quickly and keeps the temperature nice in winter

3) Should add value to your Yaris when it comes to reselling

4) Fills up a blank switch on your dashboard

Personally, wouldn't buy a car without aircon now. A recent survey in Auto Express rated the Yaris unit one of the best available :) .

On a final cautious note though, I would try it out first just to make sure the aircon doesn't make you feel sick. Sounds silly, but I have two friends and if the aircon goes on they start to feel a bit dodgy.

Aircon? Most definitely!

My last Yaris didn't have it which made it unpleasant when town driving in hot weather. No point in just opening a window as you're not going fast enough to reap the benefit and you end up breathing in the fumes of the bus in the next lane!

Incidentally, I know it was on a new car but I got aircon and a roof spoiler fitted at the incentive price of £500 so shopping around the Mr T dealers, at least by phone, might not be a bad idea.

You can't even buy a new car in Arizona WITHOUT air con. Even the cheapest base Hyundai comes with an A/C kit installed.

You'd DIE without it.

Must be nice to debate on it..

Yes but I bet the weather in Arizona is decidedly different to the weather in the UK!

Most new cars nowadays do come with it, but some dont.

My Matiz had it! It was quite funny when it was on... setting off there was a huge dead spot in the power and it took ages for revs to build. I had to turn it off and on all the time if i was in traffic!

No such problems in the Yaris.... i know it's on, but it doesn't make much difference and i couldn't be without it on those horrible stuffy day's, stuck in traffic with no wind! I love window down, but air-con is just loverly!

Got to agree with you all about the air con. GREAT! I have a seven seater with air con and I did a little test last summer to see just how good it was. Left the car in the sun for a couple of hours and then oppened up to see how hot it was. Could have fried an egg on the seats! Air con on and a couple of mins later it's a fridge. Brilliant.

Now the down side and a word of warning. My MPV's air con just died . Needs a new compressor and mag cluch set up. Been quoted over £800.00 and that's just for the parts. Ouch!

You also have to re-gas it every 2 years or so.. as it loses it's efficiency..even if you use it for a good 30 mins each week like you should to keep it in good running order...even in winter.

I hate to disagree... but my new car doesn't have it :P and I don't care.

Personally I think "you" should get aircon. As for me I don't care. Last summer I hardly ever used the aircon - infact I used it more in winter to stop the car misting up. In summer I prefer to have the windows down and sunroof open so I can hear the exhaust note. Plus, aircon drags down power when it is on, AND it is dead weight. Strip it all out and you have a lighter car!

If your going for performance over comfort then aircon is a no no. Go for comfort over performance and it is a VERY big yes yes!

I beleive the Yari use the same variable displacement compressor found in my car. It's a new design by Toyota engineered to have less of the abrupt power-robbing characteristics you usually find when you team manual A/C with a small engine. Works very well at not robbing a massive amount of power, I'd say though it's barely powerful enough to keep my entire car comfortably chilly on a very hot day here, granted mine probably has the largest interior volume of air to cool of any Yari variant but it's pretty clear they didn't do any desert weather testing on the bB. Otherwise it would have stronger A/C and a proper coolant gauge instead of an idiot light. :ffs:

One nice thing about American cars. They all have excellent airconditioning. A good air conditioning system should be able to get you to the brink of being uncomfortably cold on a hot day. I've never seen a Japanese car that can pass that test.

can't you change the gas used to get it running colder?

No. The car is a year old. The system is fully charged. It's a well-known problem with these cars. It's not horrible, it's just that it gets to 110-115 degrees F here and like everything with most inexpensive Japanese cars, the air conditioning is "adequate" nothing more, nothing less and it's barely adequate if you live in an unusually hot climate like I do.

I'm just glad I was wise enough to chose a white car. Perhaps I'll get a darker tint on all the windows this year, that will help somewhat.

Part of the problem is the variable compressor A/C, part of it is that the A/C was designed for a Yaris, not a car with more than twice the interior volume and the other part is the fact that the newer ozone-friendly refrigerants just aren't as effective as the old planet destroying gas that was used.

Get into an older American car and the A/C is frosty cold within 30 seconds. Within 3 minutes you could hang sides of beef in in and that's in any kind of weather. Too bad old American cars suck in pretty much every other way. They get cold and they go fast. The appeal ends there.

No, but cars from Japan for example use a different type of gas that creates much colder air then from the UK standard gas. But the other type of gas is illegal over here for some reason.

My stats are a bit sketchy but I'm certain that is the case.

Nope fraid not...well they would but at a cost! around £140 for Air-con service with Mr T..that includes re-gas..new filters.. and and looksy around to see all is well.

Can get it regassed most places though if they have the right adapters...but still near the £80 mark.

It does de-power the engine though...I've not noticed a drop in mph...but a drop in performance. Mine is 3 yr old now..and the air-con isn't that great it has to be on full wack in hot weather to bring the temperature right down...then it's just plain noisy....went to have it regassed just before christmas..but after waiting an hour.. and then Mr T saying sorry the equipment isn't working, I told em to stuff it!
