Help Needed On Buying Alloys And Speedo

Hi, I'm looking for some alloy wheels for my MR2 and was just wondering what alloys you recommend getting.

I want the alloys to be 17" with 7JJ's front and 8JJ's Rear, and I preffer a lip/dish. I have been looking for months for alloys but no success yet.

One other problem is speedo. I've heard that theres two types of speedo on the MKII. Mechanical and electrical and would like to know which one mine is.

I have a 1991 Jreg, built in July 1991... so says the computer in Toyota. and its a Rev2

Anyway My problem is that my tyre sizes are too small and I want to increase the diamiter. Mine at the moment is 205/50/15 and Ive read somewhere that theres a Mr2 with 225/50/15, so I was thinking of swapping my speedo driver in the gearbox with that one. But if it electrical I cant do that. So if my ar is electrical can you tell me how to calibrate it?

Thanks alot Lewis

If you look at the top of the gearbox you will see where the speedo drive comes out. It's easy to see the difference there. All but the earliest rev 2s are electrical, and the fact that you have 15" wheels points to the car being a rev 2, so chances are yours will be electrical. You shouldn't need to calibrate the speedo if you fit the correct size tyres. 225/50s should be right. It's the width you are increasing, but the diameter will increase a bit as its the rim size plus 50% of the width (where the 50 in 225/50 comes from), but that is the correct size for 15" rims.
