Nec Nd 3520a Dual Layer Dvd Burner

Hi computer people, just got an NEC ND 3520A Dual Layer DVD burner installed, but cos it wasn't a retail unit, it cames as is, brand new, but no box OR software. I was told I need to download the ' firmware ' for it, and something like Nero 6 upwards to use it. I am using Windows XP Home Edition, which auto detected the burner anyway. I have searched for the firmware, but there all kinds of this and that, and they don't do anything when I click on them. I don't know which to pick, there isn't really a software thingy I can find.

Any ideas anyone, someone who has even got he same model would be ideal. Fanx.

Nero is commercial software available from www.nero.com - I would recommend Nero

There is tons of illegal copys of nero floating around but I obviously can't post where etc.

As for firmware - you probably don't need it. The drive will function perfectly fine as it is. I would only upgrade if a new feature is available or if there is incompatability problems with some discs.

Normally to upgrade the firmware you have to do it from dos. So download the firmware stick it on a bootable disc - boot to dos and run it. Some firmware is downloaded as an iso which you stick on a cdr, then boot off it and it does everything itself.

Try the burner with some recording software 1st.. nero, blindwrite, alcohol 120%, cdr win, clone cd etc.. all available as demo's from respective websites, or as illeagle (not recommended :P ) downloads from p2p applications.
