Nice and clean, did it take long??

Nah, that one didn't.... the previous week i'd given it a proper clean with a good layer of meguirs, so this was just a wash and chamois job, good clean inside too, just over an hour i think.

When i do it properly, like a full valet including the following:

Inside Dust, polish & vac

All sill's and engine clean

Under-car spray

Full body wash

Chamois (with wax-it-wet)

Full wax on wax off job

Windows all cleaned and rain-x'ed

Tyres blacked

All trim blacked

That takes about 2-3 hours, maybe more depending on how filthy it is!

Looks great, man.

What's under car spray though, if I may ask?

It's me laying on my fat belly, holding my hose pipe under the car! I only do it through winter really to wash the salt off everything... the dirt that falls on my drive is shocking! Filthy country!

Question.

Isnt there like stuff under the car thats like important and stuff?

Translation - wouldnt cleaning the under belly hurt something? I tend to stay away from mechanical stuff - just in case I break it!

I'm not even allowed to vacuum our house because I've broken the Hoover like 6 times already!

Do you see what I'm trying to say?

Nothing that water will harm. Otherwise how would you drive in the rain without destroying your car?

The only thing you want to avoid getting wet is the ignition system and our cars have igniton modules which are better sealed and much less vulnerable to water than distributors, and you don't want to blast the engine block or any aluminium exhaust pieces with ice cold water when they are red hot (for obvious reasons)

Short answer: It's perfectly safe to squirt the hose at the underneath of your car.

cheers :D

ps. car looks fantastic!

Em,

I dont use a chamois leather....use a microfibre cloth to dry the car down.......I'll bring you one tommorow :) ...(but of course that doesnt get over todays problem :( )

All I can suggest is that you wait untill this evening and try again.

f:censor:k! I wish it takes me that little time if i did all of them at once. I tend to split it up. Just a wash, hover, tyre dressing and polish takes me 3 hours! How do you do it? Am i speaking to super man?

I've never been able to clean any of the Yarii (and ssssh - fiesta) that I own underneath as I don't have the "luxury" of a hose and driveway.

I think it takes me around about 30 mins or so to wash the outside of a Yaris, bare in mind I have to keep lugging buckets of water from the kitchen sink to the road outside - sure is good for the arm muscles i know that.

I so need to clean the Blue tomorrow - got some Meguiars that needs to be tried out.

I am so lazy plus The All American Hand Car Wash, a valetting and hand car wash company, are less than a couple of miles away. ;)

They do a great job inside and out for about 20 quid or an exterior wash and dry for £8, I think.

Yeah - those places are excellent! I just put my feet up for a bit with a cuppa and let them do all the work - cant say fairer than that! lol

microfibre cloths are available at Tesco's for about £1

They are very soft and dont scratch the paintwork, they can be washed in the washing machine ....but do not use fabric softener on them

In response to Danny on what to use, my products are as follows:

Inside Cleaning:

Old electrolux Vac

Damp chamois

microfibre cloth

pledge.

Outside cleaning:

Hozelock Hose!

3gal bucket

99p sponge x 2 (one for wheels and under sills, one for body work)

Crappy blue kitchen cloth (for wheels... getting behind the spokes and into wheel)

Turtlewax Extreme Wash & Wax (Green Bottle... £8 for medium size one that lasts AGES!)

Large Real Leather Chamois from Halfrauds

Turtlewax Wax-it-Wet (Blue spray bottle... spray it on whilst chamois-ing off.... instant shine and protection)

Meguires Gold Class Clear Coat liquid wax

Cotton polishing stocking (about £1 for a load)

Turtlewax Window cleaner (or Mr Muscle! When iv run out!)

Rain-X

Turtlewax Tyre Shine (spray bottle, not aerosol)

Kitchen Roll (for applying the window cleaner stuff and cleaning up the tyre stuff which is a bit messy!)

Methylated Spirit (Use sparingley to remove bug's and tar from paintwork - wipe off with water and re-chamois afterwards)

Think that's about it! Quite a few, and yes, i like my turtlewax stuff, but we've used it for years and it's always been brilliant stuff!

Oh, on the subject of speed, that calculation may be wrong, because a lot of the time i wax/polish my car the following day after it's been cleaned. This gives time for all the remaining droplets of water to dry up and so i can run a damp chamois over any missed bits before applying the wax/polish.

I can't recommend enough though the Wax-it-Wet product, it's fairly pricey at £6 a bottle, but it's brilliant stuff. Just use it every other wash to keep a great layer of wax on your paintwork. If you're chamois-ing anyway, then it makes no difference to time or effort. If used as regular as this, everytime your car gets dirty, as soon as you come to wash it, the dirt literally falls off... and the permanant sheen, even when the cars dirty is great.

Hope I haven't bored you all! Happy cleaning!

Well the sun is shining off mine and it gleams. Something to do with Thunder Grey and Supagard, despite it being covered in a nice film of Welsh mud and Anfield dust!
