Today (30th April) i was driving in my avensis, went to change radio stations, and as i did suddenly the radio switched off, i thought this was the only problem but then realised that the windows would not open and the lights, indicators etc would not work, nor the immobiliser when i got home. Now when i go to start the car up on the dash only the 'battery' symbol and the 'door' symbol show up. The car still starts but i noticed one thing that doesnt appear on the dash is the 'engine' symbol on startup.

has anyone experienced this problem or know what the cause is and how i could resolve it. :help:

thanks..

ps. Car Spec: Toyota Avensis 1.8 GS, 16000 miles. not long been out of warranty <_<

The Battery being low may not be the root cause!

Ask yourself why the Battery was low. Alternator poor charging, loose connection, knackered Battery, etc.

I have a charging wiring diagram for the Avensis. PM me if you need any further info/advise.

yup problem is back :crybaby:

is due for an M.O.T soon so i'll see what they pick up.

But yer possible probs:

charging cables- possible, unchecked

alternator- possible, unchecked

Knackered Battery- Checked, No problem

Try one of those electronic diagnostic centres - make sure all electrical parts are working OK.

I had a dud Battery a few weeks back whilst out, got the AA out and I was surprised how thorough they checked all the electrical parts in the engine.

k Toyota have replaced a 'Hidden' fuse which had apparently been 'tampered with'. and apparently the problem wont occur anymore.

A friend had a problem with a draining Battery. It turned out that something had happened to the courtesy light switch in the boot. The light was on all the time, which slowly drained the Battery. Of course without folding the seats etc. you didn't know that the light was always on...
