I think the idea is that they open at a lower temperature thus allowing the engine to run slightly cooler. Ideal for celicas as the engine bay is a right heat trap.

No it wont damage anything. It only runs 2 or 3 degrees cooler. It will help the engine in the long term. Not too sure if it would be a good idea to have it in for the winter tho. I keep threatening to get one. I suppose now would be a good time as i`ve got the engine in bits.

Don't bother with one in a road car, it won't need it, and it will do slightly less mpg. It won't make the slightest bit of difference when you get stuck in traffic in summer, the stat will be wide open and everything will heat up until the fan switch decides the rad is too hot and kicks the fan off.

They're only any advantage in a bonkers tuned car, where they will start to open a bit earlier to start dissipating the extra heat.

the best mod for more ooomffff is to leave it in second , they are slow cars under 4000 rpm , i thought my old st202 was crap untill i learned how to drive it , over 4000 rpm is where the power starts

Yeah i wasnt too impresed i would like it to at least pin me just a bit.

Having someone in the car just 1 person seems to make a big differnce.

Dont know if its psycological but even if my lass getts out she weighs 8 st i can tell.

Thats why i'm after gettin it a bit quicker !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best way to make ur car feel quicker is lower it.
