Question About Getting A New Avensis Ecu

i reckon the ecu on my '99 avensis 1.6 has gone but my brother told me that each ecu was programmed to the individual car is tat true? and where can i get a 1.6 4afe ecu for the avensis/ or anyone know of an alternative.

Ok, the ECU might be actually gone, but what makes you think that the ECU is gone?

It is a big decision to replace the ECU so I wondered what concluded that.

As for the ECU being programmed to the individual cars, I don't think the Avensis is one of them. I know some cars, the likes of Peugeot and Fiat ECU do need to be programmed but...
