Just bought a 54 plate T4 d4d with the 17'' seven spoke alloys. mines come with Dunlop 215/45R17 tyres but am confused as to what tyre presasure to put in. The dealer I bought it off used 32psi all round but the front panel states 35psi upto 100mph while another dealer says it should 36 all round. A site on the internet is claiming 42 psi all round. Help from anybody else with a T4 please

:help:

Hi,

I have been driving a T-Spirit 2,0 VTTi here in the Netherlands for about a 1 1/2 years.

I'm running my 17" Dunlops at 38 psi all year around. That has several advantages: Lower wear, less noise and better fuel economy! :)

When I go on the autobahn (live near the German border), I use 42 Psi for better high speed stability ;)

Make sure (if you have a full spare) to rotate them every 6500 miles (see owners manual) for better tire life.

Have fun with this great car!

Bob

Thanks Bob, I'll try 38 all round from now on! :)

Interesting,

What about the Avensis like mine (T3-X) with the 16" alloys and the 205 tyres.

Anyone got a reccomendation for these ?

Cheers

Hi, I've been looking into this with the purchase of a new Avensis -- a 2 litre with the tyre size you mention.

I took 4 test drives with different cars. The first did what some reviews said: pushed around by road irregularities and sometimes wanders off course all by itself whether on the straight or on a long corner. The second drove fine, the third bad again and the fourth good again.

The second car was a mecahnic's take-home job. He was wiser on the subject and used higher pressures which made all the difference -- and the fourth was in fact the 3rd car again with higher pressures. A much better drive. Forgive me if I talk in Bar rather than PSI as I haven't lived in the UK for some years. But, the Toyota manual recommends 2.2 Bar all round for normal driving, and according to the garage, 2.4 Bar and even 2.6 in some cases is much more appropriate and also recommended by Nokian tyres (town of Nokia not far away, so it's easy for them to pop over and do some tests with Finland's most sold car in its class).

Info from an internet forum over here suggested 2.5 Bar +/- .2 Bar. Digital pressure guage recommended.

So, up the pressures and you'll have a better drive, and if you're driving the motorways more than town, get the 2 litre or higher or a diesel, as these have hydrailic power steering which isn't as fiddly as the electronic version, which together with the higher tyre pressures makes for a more relaxed drive.

The Avensis isn't alone in this. The Primera drivers over here are also complaining of the car's sensitivity to tyre pressures.
