Yaris Without A Horn - Rant

Hi Guys,

As you know the Blue got air-con fitted not last week, the week before and I know that before that the horn worked..anyway, driving to work on Friday, on a roundabout and some idiot in a Mercedes Vito Van pulled out on me very nearly causing an acc, I knocked the horn and it wouldnt work - I put it down to me not pressing it properly and didnt think anything more of it.

This morning - 20 minutes ago I was taking my Parents somewhere, and picking up a Friend of theirs on the way..pressed the horn to let the Friend know we were outside, and it doesnt work! No matter how hard its pressed - NOTHING!

In a way it's kinda funny how something like this could've happened - but on the other hand I am very annoyed, as apparently it's illegal to have a car with a horn that doesnt work and B) on my day off this week I'll have to go to MrT as it was fine before!

Any idea's why it's not working?

*Rant Over*

Maybe they caught a wire or broke something when they were fitting your air con,

hope you get it fixed

They have probably knocked the wire off.. or have forgotten to reconnect it up (if they had to disconnect it).. also, check other electrics such as cigarette lighter to see if anything else isn't working.. normally the horn shares a fuse with something else.. if this is the case and something else isn't working, check your fuses.

Sounds strange - I agree with the others - its probably just a loose wire they forgot to re-connect.

I agree with Davy - check other things too just in case they dont work and get it all sorted back at Mr T..... bunch of numptys!

Oh you won't have to pay for it. Not even a question. I've got quite a little list of things that need doing on mine. Just niggles but I want them putting right. They're doing them all under warranty. It's just the inconvenience of leaving the car with them.

They'll sort it in no time.

have you tried pressing it really really hard?

pressing it repeatidly,

pressing it hard whilst holding it down,

pressing it whist saying "work :censor: , work"?

On my car which admittedly is a previous generation Corolla not a Yaris, has the air con radiator mounted directly in front of the main rad, just behind the grill, and it looks like the horn is mounted in front of the air con rad - dunno if the Yarii are the same, but could be worth a quick look under the bonnet to see if the horn is in that position and if it has a dangling wiring connector :)

Yeah, that's crazy dangerous blue.

You do need to get that to the Mr. T and be assertive. I would tell them it nearly caused you an accident twice and insist on a prompt repair.

The horn site directly in front of the rad and is supplied by one power lead - its earthed onto the boadywork by its own mounting bolt.

More than likely they've either knocked the wire to the fuse or even blown the fuse ... but its not your problem ... back to MrT and ask then why they didnt check everything after such a major job!

Thanks for the info guys - I know some stuff about cars, but not touching wires or stuff myself! Noooo way!

So I'll check the cig lighter, anything else worth checking?

Have been doing a lot of driving over the weekend, and havent spotted anything else wrong....have been enjoying the air-con today aswell :D

While getting it fixed you could get one of the musical horns out of Dukes of Hazard.

That on a Yaris would bring more than a smile or too...

Course if it was my car theres not a chance id do it..

On a more serious note, My dads Pug 406 horn stopped working - After fixing a problem with air con (So i guess there should be a connection)

Hope i helped more than amused. I didnt amuse much though. :)

Haha no definately just want the normal horn on her, that's all she needs!!

They definately disconnected the Battery, as when I got her back she was way out on the clock, no radio settings were tuned in and the range/average speed/consumption were set in KM..was quite fun driving home and having the computer set to average speed in KM's :D

Still annoying tho - could do without having to go down there on my day off, but if needs must I have no choice :ffs:

Kimi, i know you have twin 120db hprns fitted, so how much did that set you back? I live up country lanes, and if you plan on going more than 5 mph you need a loud horn....

well with the help of Yves I looked for the horn in the Blue's engine, but I couldnt find it - :ffs: I really did look hard for it too.

Called Toyota earlier on - and I swear the woman on service thought I had a screw loose - because of working etc I have to wait until a week on Friday before she can be seen by MrT as a "while you wait" kinda thing because I need a courtesy car otherwise....argh this is something they have done!

Oh well - still annoyed tho

Basically it sits between the rad and the front grill - so you can uprate it if you can get a replacements thats as thin you're fine...

... otherwise its just a case of finding a space then extending the cable ...
