Free Game...

Bought a graphics card just before Halflife 2 came out. It had a voucher etc inside it saying that I could get HL2 for free.

Was rumaging through some stuff today and found this voucher. Now downloading HL2 from steam. Not only that, they allow you to download HL and Counterstrike, etc... etc...

Enjoy, it's an ace game. Although that 'Steam' thing they use is utterly useless.

Install a game then spend 30 min's decoding it :ffs: not my idea of a fun time. And that's only for HL2, if you want to play counterstrike you have to go through the whole decoding :censor: again !!!!!

But once you get past that, it's a great game.

I know you can get those code generators cant you..... couldnt you just use one of them to get the correct code to play it?

(Disclaimer: I do not know what I am talking about, never played HL2, never used Stream, basically talking out of my bum, but trying to help too so please dont abuse me!)

You can, a collegue at work showed me. It was about 2 days after release :/ Me and my mate were adament you couldn't - so he bought his PC to work and showed us. Can't remember exactly, but you download an un-encrypted copy of the game and then use a Steam emulator.

It is easy to copy the disc.. it WAS easy to generate a false steam acount., but Steam got wise and knew who was playing illeagle copies online.. then they blocked your ip and blocked the serial of the copied disc too.

It could be possible to set up a server that doesn't use Steam for online gaming though... i can't remember now.

I would even though i can't play it to save myself.. i used to play Unreal Tournament online on a regular basis.. but can't now because i run a server (hub) on Direct Connect (better than emule etc IMO) and during online gaming i get too much lag :(
