What is actualy involved in strengthening engine internals?is it a process which is done to the standard parts or are new custom made required?is it very costly?any ideas!

Would love to turbo the yaris but would not want to risk damaging the engine!would possibly be feasable within a few months depending on afew things!!

CB

basically the engine is stripped down and the pistons and rods are reverse engineered and recreated in some nice forged steel... and your talking thousands for this! but its possible and will make the engine as hard as nails! plus your looking at things like uprated headbolts to make sure the extra pressure doesnt rip it off and smash it through the bonnet

as far as i can remeber though EL Prototypes make low comp piston for the 1NZ engine i think ill have to dig out my notes from my car... and i also think they were at least £1000 again and you have to get them from the states

but ill add this as useless information for the day...

on the quest for forced induction i was working along with dale (super-!Removed!) and we found out the yaris has a knock sensor...

knock sensors sense when the engine detonates and retards/advances the ignition as needed mainly due to heat and high pressure

now 99.99% of NA cars dont have knock sensors and the ones that do, dont generally make use of them

so why has the yaris got one??? perhaps Toyota wanted it turbo'd

;)

also concider this on the money front... your upgraqding the engine... the suspension and brakes will also need a good seeing too, no point going fast if you cant stop

;)

supercharger is constantly on, uses more pertrol but theres no "turbo lag" it runs off a puley type of mechnism. Turbo should provide more power output tho.

well this is what i know, im sure someone will be along and have more info

As far as im aware, a supercharger doesn't actually use more power.... you can actually stop it running and the engine will run fine, the petrol decrease is due to heavier foot when charging the beast up!

if you stop it running when u dont need it then its not making any power, when its running it takes power from the engine.

its this power usage that makes it use more power to work than turbos.

thats why there is a difference in power between the T-sport turbo and a T-sport with a TTE supercharger. they both use the same boost but one makes about 10hp more than the other.

say the SC needs 20hp to run. but adds 40 bhp to the car making it 150 bhp. there fore the charger would need to produce 70bhp to achieve this, (not real figures but hey) there fore shirley the charger would be putting more strain on your engine?

superchargers typically drag 10% engine power ;)

top fuel dragsters running 5000bhp and the supercharger takes 500bhp to run :o
