Idle Speeds And Fuel Consumption

Hello all :D

I've just joined the forum and purchased my first Toyota.

I've owned many cars and spent a while in the motor trade but have not come accross my model of car before.

I know very little about this model of car.

Its a Corolla 1996 1.6Si 3dr in a type of metalic black/charcoal.

A nice 79,000 mile Vanilla car.

It does seem to idle a little high around 900rpm eventually, after dropping 1100rpm first and then to 900 a few seconds later.

I've not had it long enough to gauge fuel economy but it seems a little thirsty.

Its got drums on the back and i'd like to see if i can change them to disks.

Anyone have one of these or in the know of this model?

Hello, and welcome.

Another Si in Swansea eh? That's two I know of now (including mine). Your idle speed seems normal to me. Mine starts off at about 1100 when cold and when warmed up (can take several minutes) drops to 800-900 (difficult to say exact reading though).

I'm not sure of the consumption figures for this model, but I think it's around 36mpg which I think I generally get most of the time. I've noticed it seems more thirsty if I use Sainsbury's fuel in town, so I stick with Shell on Fabian Way.

Gareth.

Thanks Gareth

and if the other one you knew was in mumbles I have that now :)

I know very little about the model as said. I was running around in a mk2 crx vtec which i'd modded up over the years but needed the additional space in the back so got this.

I do intend to change suspension, wheels and zorst at some point. Got too used to my coil overs and DC sports ceramic coat system on the last car :).

Keeping it original too start I think.

Do you know where I can get tailgate struts as mine fubar'd. dealers tend to be over pricedand sell you the same ones that will go again in a few years. No of any after market ones that are heavier duty.

I'm guessing its the spoiler weight that was not couted for in the original design thats killing the boot shocks?
