Mods & Toyota Finance

Can anyone answer a question?

I'm just curious - if you have bought your car through Toyota on a finance plan - you dont own the car until its final payment right.....?

So therefore if you dont own the car you cant modify it because its not legally "yours"? Or is it still ok to do so?

I'm just curious as to how it would all work - is there a finance rule that says you can't or don't they really bother with it?

This is just a guess but it would probably be ok as long as you plan keeping the car until you have paid for it. Otherwise they would probably be frowned upon because of warrenty issues.

I'm paying mine off over 3 years through toyota and have mods and they said they were ok, just not sure what the mods are going to do to my warranty

wouldnt break anyway  :P

Pretty much what I've decided!

I don't know about the finance though - I make a payment to Bank of Parent every month  although I'm not too sure what its position is on mods either. Doesn't seem to have noticed though...

The reason I'm asking is....

I want to put my devil horns on at the weekend but Rich reckons that its not a good idea because its strictly speaking not my car and I want to trade it in for my P3 T-Pot in a year or two anyway and he's said that I might get less of a trade-in value for it - even with devil horns, because they'd be classed as a styling modification.

I doubt horns would invalidate the warranty, unless the paint around them corroded or something - so I'm not worried about that. I took Toyota finance on this car as they gave me a good deal, but I understand that its not my car until I make the final payment...

But I want my devil horns fitted really really badly! Its only a tiny mod - maybe not even worth all the hassle!

Where abouts did you get them from? I can't find them anywhere. :(

And when i was talking to the guy at the dealership about my new t-sport i mentioned getting them to tint the windows and he said they'd do it no probs - and i'm going with Toyota finance. Can't imagine a tiny mod like yours would affect anything.

what sort of finance is it under?

if its leased, and you have restricted mileage etc (a bit like a company car) - then you should probably leave it alone.

If its just under a loan from Toyota - then it is your car.

your name will be on the V5, and you will be responsible for keeping it roadworthy and legal.

At the end of the loan period - you may be required to complete the payment, usually by either

- repaying the final amount in cash (by either financing the final payment, saving up, or selling the car)

- trading against a new one

modifications may have a bearing on the value of the car - and so may make it harder to sell on, or part exchange.

unless or course, you are trading to a new toyota - in which case the dealer probably wont care.

No its not a lease - I've got no restrictions on mileage - I just pay x amount per month for x amount of years

 yes Em you worry far to much

as for your horns you can remove them anyway, just heat them up with a hairdyer and they will be flexy easy to remove,

just dont try to pull them off when they are cold.

so go get Horny :P

Which is why i make sure i only put on mods that are reversable

Wow I thought you had Kaori on a bank loan like Karis was!

The Blue is on finance too, and not once have they mentioned about her being on finance since I brought her- same for the T3 too.

Devil horns arent a huge mod anyway - they'd be okay I'm sure..

Also they put air-con on the Blue with no hassle (even if they did leave the horn disconnected after :ffs: never mentioned anything about the finance)

TBH Blue I have had so many problems with my bank regarding Karis' loan they have put me off bank loans for life!

I was pleasantly surprised when Toyota quoted me as they were much much cheaper than my loan and I still had all the protection - the GAP insurance and payment protection insurance and everything.

I've since completely changed my views on dealer finance!
