Hi All,

Had my 54 plate RAV4 VVT-i for 3 weeks now.

Graduated from an Astra 1.6 Club.

Mostly pleased withit especially the elevated driving position.

However, I do not know if I am being too fussy, but there seems to be quite a lot of road noise/tyre roar on most of the road surfaces I use around the Midlands.

Is it me not being used to the open spaces of a RAV body or is there a problem with the tyres?

They are the factory fitted Bridgestone Dueller 687.

Much appreciate any comments.

Cheers,

Rog.

When I first moved to my XT4 I thought it more noisy (road noise) than my old Toyota saloon. But then, I now have much larger tyres so more road noise is to be expected. I drive mostly with the radio on and so don't notice it as the extra noise is too loud. :)

I moved from an IS200 and found my RAV at lot noiser - lined the doors, quarter panels and floor with sound deadening material and now it is much much better :)

Hi, Thanks to jonbr & AMh for their comments.

Soundproofing seems an extreme remedy but if it is cheap & easy to do it might be worthwhile.

Any more info on what has to be taken apart and what material to use would be much appreciated.

Cheers for now,

Rog.

Umm - it's not particularly cheap or easy !!

I used Dynamat Extreme (ali backed self adhesive material) - involves removing all the door panels and poly sheeting - cutting and sticking the material to the inside of the outer skin and then re-assembling - then taking the rear seats out, lifting the carpets and sticking material to all the floor-pan you can reach.

Mine is on 17" Pirelli Scorpian STR's as part of Granite kit - now it rolls along in near silence compared to when I first got it (plus no doubt I have become accustomed to the noise) - certainly made a big difference and the doors have a real "thunk" now ... :)

As I've said before anyone is welcome to have a ride if they are down south - a sort of try before you do option ... :P

Thanks AMH for your comments.

I too have got a bit used to it by now so may not go ahead with your suggestion.

However if I need to I now know what is involved.

Cheers,

Rog.
