Dead Bugs On Front Of Car

Hi All,

I've cleaned the Yaris Blue today - and did use Meguiars Gold Shampoo/Conditioner on her too (for the first time) - am impressed!

Anyway what still wont come off is some of the remainders of dead bugs on the front bumper and bonnet - I use a big sponge, and rubbed as hard as I could but some of them won't shift. What do you lot use?

I don't care about buying more stuff if neccessary, it just really annoys me that the car is clean (for once) but has ugly bug marks on her..

This is the finished result - all over clean, including alloys with the new alloy cleaning brush and armourall tyre foam/dressing.

An old and worn scouring pad does the trick on number plates etc - you must have super-bugs in Essex though as normally warm soapy water, a jet on the hose and a bit of elbow grease gets the Leics bugs off!

I know you dont have access to a hose though, so (and I know this is gonna sound minging, but it will work) rub them off with your fingers - makes sure you wash your hands after though!!

I've got a Bug and Tar remover, which also waxes. It comes in a black trigger pump bottle and you can pick it up in Halfords etc... you only need to use a tiny amount though as it can be a bit hard to buff off.

i use turtle wax bug and tar remover. just stray it on and leave it for a minute then rub off. concentratin where the bugs are. when rubbed off buff it up and it leaves a nice polished finish. works great on tar as well

yeah, we have super bugs in essex. Not even my pressure washer will shift them 100%. If i put a different tool on though i'm sure they'll be blasted off, just cant be ar5ed.

i've heard that people use white spirit to shift them, never tried it myself tho. I use to have a sponge with a rough side on it which was for bug removal. Always frightened of scratching my body with it so never really got all of it off.

Bird Poo aint that much of a problem for me, did have to clean some off the bonnet yesterday morning - first time for ages.

Ferrariboyuk is right - yeah we do have superbugs here  I go approx 7 miles along a Dual Carriageway and back 4 days a week cos I have an 11 mile either way trip to work and back, and I always go at 70 mph where possible..I don't hang around, but I don't speed either so that cant help with the force of the bugs hitting the front. Also maybe I should clean the car more too - wouldnt get a chance to build up as much that way  Havent got any tar marks tho..

So turtlewax bug and tar remover is a good way to go?

I use a sponge which has a soft net over it, had it years and its still the dog's. even though its a bit thin these days...

Blue, are you missing the covers off your locking wheel nuts? Looks like you might be!

Mine have caps on them so they look like the other nuts:

Bottom right nut is the locking one! Proper Mr T Locking nuts btw...

Bird poo is worst.

Remember birds don’t have teeth, so they eat grit and small stones to digest their food. That grit is in the poo so when you rub it off the car its like natural sand paper!

Moisten the poo or bug remains with a baby wipe or similar to soak it and it should lift off.

Yeah plus its naturally acidic... If you leave it long enough it will dissolve your paintwork. I remember Holts doing a test on all kinds of substances on their paints years ago, and Bird Poo was the worst stuff because of it's acidity!

Bird poo and bugs .. I do love the summer. We've some little blighters nesting above our garage and they always use my car not the other one for target practice.

I have tried various bug removing solutions, but I'm afriad that elbow grease is still the only real way forward. If you can get to it say once a week its much easier.

Yup that's what I did - I know it's acidic and wanna keep the paintwork looking as good as possible. One of the Neighbours has a 54 Plate Galaxy, which was behind the Blue before I started cleaning her..and on the back of it were at least 4 lots of bird poo - it's dark blue and was really really filthy! Not nice

Sometimes us car owners splatted with bird poo cant help being loved by the birds!

I clean Kaori and 5 mins later I have a lovely splat on my roof! Same with Richs 206 as well, which is dark green.

Dark blue does show it really badly too! Still - at least Rich can say all the local birds love his car - I can't say that, well unless I want funny looks off the neighbours!:lol:

Was going to say something else in that post, but almost got caught by my boss :o

Can't remember, but it involved washing the car tonight...

Try useing the mcguars that come with the lump of clay :) works a treat

EDIT: looked it out... it's called Meguiars Quik clay detailing System..

From the net.....

"Every day, vehicle paint finishes are bombarded with a wide variety of airborne contaminants. Here are just a few of those that can cause the surface to become dull and rough: tree sap mist; paint overspray; industrial fallout; hard water deposits; diesel fuel exhausts; rubber particles from other cars; insect droppings; Bug splatter _ And much more! The Meguiar's Quik clay detailing System safely and quickly removes all these contaminants and restores crystal clear reflections and slickness. The Quik Clay system includes a specially formulated non-abrasive clay bar that safely lifts off the contaminants as the surface is lubricated with Quik Detailer. Instantly, paint is restored to a shiny, smooth as glass finish and is ready for wax protection to be added. Without this technology, many car owners would have been left with only more expensive alternatives to restore their investment."

They've changed the locking nuts they use, Dicey. Mine were like yours on my last Yaris. My new one has the same type as Blue. The end is round and larger and they don't come with caps. Progress, eh?

Both my nuts (pardon the expression!) on both my cars have been like Diceys so must have been a very recent change!
