Dead Bugs On Front Of Car

They've changed the locking nuts they use, Dicey. Mine were like yours on my last Yaris. My new one has the same type as Blue. The end is round and larger and they don't come with caps. Progress, eh?

Phew I was gonna get worried then - unless it's a Colour Collection/Blue thing? The Blue was registered to Toyota on the 31st Jan this year - so not all that recent in one way, altho I only got her in March.

Best thing I've ever used was something bought from Halfords (i think?) called "bug-off"

worked wonders me all fruit...

Failing that.... Brillo Pad - especially for the paint

*chuckles*

I use a sponge which has a soft net over it, had it years and its still the dog's. even though its a bit thin these days...

Blue, are you missing the covers off your locking wheel nuts? Looks like you might be!

Mine have caps on them so they look like the other nuts:

Bottom right nut is the locking one!  Proper Mr T Locking nuts btw...

Don't use white spirit on your car, it isn't clean enough!

Use methylated spirit to remove bugs and tar.... cheaper than the products and works very well indeed!

Good advice, Seveer.

I use a bit of that on a soft cloth and rub gently. Does the trick every time.

We call it denatured alcohol here, BTW, but it's the same exact substance.

If there are any Americans reading they may have a hard time finding anything labeled "methylated spirit" in the shop.

Good advice, Seveer.

See, not just full of sh*t me!

Oh, you can use ethanol as well.... similar thing.... just don't drink it....

Infact, ethanol is where i think the world's car industry should focus it's attention, there have already been cars produced to run on it.... it's a totally renewable energy source (comes from sugar cane) and with a few modifications, todays cars can run on it with ease. It produces no harmful toxic wastes and is far better for performance.

I like the stuff!! (oh, it's alcohol by the way!)

Incidentally, everything you've just said is also true of biodiesel and what's better is ANY diesel motor can run on biodiesel without a single modification, whereas 100% ethanol does require some changes to the fuel system in most cases. Biodiesel can be made from nearly anything too, including refined waste oil from restaurants. Almost any type of natural oil can be used from beef fat to coconut oil to you name it and in any combination. All of it can be refined and de-esterized and run directly in any diesel engine with brilliant results. But that's a topic for another thread... ;)

Yeah, i heard of this biodiesel.... i'd be happy running a diesel in that case... no particle emissions so i can still breath easy!

Oh, and i use 'happy' in the loosest form.... it's still not going to rev and sound like a petrol!

There would still be particle emissions, I'm afraid, but the exhaust itself would be non-toxic.

Only way to eliminate particle emissions entirely from a diesel is to convert it run on compressed natural gas/propane.

Even gasoline engines have particle emisions, you know. It's just the particles are smaller and not as visible.

Both my nuts (pardon the expression!) on both my cars have been like Diceys so must have been a very recent change!

hahah Em!

Cheers Al, looks like they have changed the centre of the alloy too, ever so slightly!

Was just curoius because as Em says there's Phase 2's with the nuts like mine on!

haha couldnt help but laugh reading that

When I get home from work tonight I'll have a look and see how many more of the dead bugs she's attracted - I feel a trip to get some bug/tar remover coming up soon, along with some Meguairs polish

dont think I'd go for any kind of spirit like what you guys have mentioned - dont wanna risk it! The Blue has got gorgeous paint work and I want it to stay that way :)

nope, t sport ones are flat flange type nuts non t sport nuts are tapered if t sport nuts were on the wheels pictured they would be a poor fit and very unsafe,

Yeah, i know, but the diesel particles are more harmful to me as an asthma sufferer!

Basically, to end all arguments, all fuels that are commonly used today are killing the earth, they're filthy and cause many human illnesses. A few years ago i lived in the middle of the oxfordshire countryside for a while (little place called cuddesdon) and my asthma cleared up as there were far less cars therefore less pollution.

The best way forward is hydrogen/ethanol.... they seem to put out nothing and are 100% renewable!

only thing is the fuel companies will put a stop to them in any way they can. cos it will cost them too much

Interesting how a thread started about getting the dead bugs off the front of a car has turned into a discussion about chemical particles and effects and fuel!

 for me i find the Meguiars wool mit is by far the best it works 100% its the little side with like a fish net over it, and you can really scrub hard with it and it doesnt ruin or mark the paint.

sometimes if you use something even slightly adrasive it can mark the paint when you put effort into it but not this

Yes. Fuel cells are the future.

Many of us will most likely be driving fuel cell powered vehicles in 20-30 years.

I'm all for vehicles that put out potable water vapor as their only emissions.

As long as I can still get something I can shift even if its a CVT simulating "gears" then I'll be happy I think.

Well.... your question was answered, was it not?

There is only so much you can discuss getting bug residue off your car before it's all be covered.
