Hi all, trying to fix this problem myself but not a wiring Guru by any means.

when I put my left indicator on it blows the indicator fuse in the cabin fuse box, the right indicator works fine till the fuse is blown obviously.

Whats causing this to happen?

How do I fix it?

Wheres the best place to start looking?

thanks for any help.

Michael.

is bulb correct rating? are wires earthing anywhere? is fuse correct rating? is there any other electrical items (alarms) using indicators? could be owt, if you still dont know after checking obvious then an auto electrician is the only way.

Alarm was using indicators, but been disconnected as they caused the alarm to spike. Bulb hasn't changed since I got it(they were working before) fuse is 7.5 as should be. Where could I check for earthing? the whole indicator wiring?

thanks.

take the indicators out and check fo any snagged and split wires

did you fit your own headunit? remove the dash panel and check that nothing has happened to the wiring on the hazard switch

metal is touch metal somehwere and its just a case of tracing it till you find it, switches and lightunits are the best places to start

if you can't find any visable snaggin, find a friend with a multimeter and then check the wires for continuity that will tell you if the live is earthed at any point

As Rob said, check for bare wires. I can't see it just being a dodgy earth. If I were you I'd just change the wire on that side.

where does the wire go? there seems to be S#*t loads of it! changing the wire seems to be the best bet, but where do I start? any diagrams?

Sorry, I don't really have a clue about this, would that not take forever?

I'm guessing it feeds from the drivers side footwell near the fuse box but don't quote me on that. Might be easier to locate the said wire and run a new one through, don't remove the old wire as it would take forever. Just make sure it's terminated and tucked out of the way.

try removing one indicator bulb at a time and testing indicators to see if it still blows fuse, if/when you find which ones dodgy then run a wire from other indicator that works. worth a try

removed all indicator bulbs and tried...still blowing the fuse, replaced one at a time, still blowing. When I unplug the hazard switch nothing happens, when I plug it back in and press the left ind, it blows the fuse.

Might have to resort to getting an auto electrician to fix it, I wanted to fix it myself dam it!

okay, so there is a short before the bulbs .. the hazards are integrated into the indicators, can't have one without the other ..

I can't see any bare wires anywhere, I don't know where else to look.

yeah, checked the rear clusters, the front clusters and the little side sh@*ty thing. Again, this was all fine till the Alarm stuffed up at Bruntingthorpe, the garage I go to said they disconnected the alarm from the indicators, so the alarm works now...I can't see why the indicators wouldn't work now!!!
