Hi can anyone help me? Ive just bought a celica 95/m reg st 202 from japan and was trying to find some specs on it! i.e. 0-60, top speed, ect!

All i know about the car is its a 2.0 twin cam, has LSD, 3 plate clutch, air con, 5 speed, and no before anyone asks im not getting confused with the gt4 205 model.

but all i no is that it is fast coz it will beat a 90-94 celica gt4 205,

Ive done a 0-60 in just under 7 secs but couldnt trash the gears coz i was waiting to get a part replased and it only had a tepary part on it, also had it up to 120mph in 4th a about 7200rpm and 130 in 5th at about 5800rpm or so, but my tracking is out so steering get to doggy at the moment at 125 or so, so yer just wondered if anyone can help me out!

im gessing that the 202 in hte name stands for the bhp but ant sure, all i no is its abit more than standard power coz of an manifold 4-2-1 cat back exhaust system and k&N intreduction kit!

Has cool elictric folding mirrors too! anyways if anyone could help that would be more than welcome! thanks James

st202 is mearly the model code not an indication of bhp.must of been a poor mans gt4 you beat , also its not a good idea to state top speeds on the site , moderators dont like it.

I think only the SS3 has an LSD as standard. If the engine has a red cam cover with 'beams' written across the top then it's the 200 hp vvti model. Quite a rare model too.

All 2 litre celica's have a 4-2-1 manifold though. Get your tracking sorted out before you kill yourself, driving at those speeds.

I would strongly recommend that you take your postcode off your profile too. Otherwise, anyone looking for a nice celica knows exactly where you live!

Yup, it was lucky the speeds your are talking about where done on a track/airfield, not a motorway!

a rolling race with an st205 against an SS2 would surely be quite close?

bit of maths...

if a GT4 has 250BHP and the ST202 has 180BHP then the GT4 would have (very appox) 40% transmission losses so 250 x 0.6 = 150BHP at the wheels. And the St202 would have 180 X 0.81 (based on 19% transmission losses) = 145.8BHP at the wheels...

Yet the ST205 weighs ALOT more... i know it has ALOT more torque too but surely it would be a close call when traction isnt an issue.

BTW billybob if his celica was a 1990 too 1994 then it would be a 5th generation celica GT4 which arent half as quick as the 6th generation GT4's.

Nah, HUGE difference im afraid. Ed's st202 is able to match an ST185 in a straight line but that only because its stripped to the nuts and has nitros.

ST205's are animals

just been informed transmission loses are as little as 30% on the st205.

ok it wud then! lol

please dont mind as i wade in knee deep.

90-94 is a ST185 GT Four, all wheel drive. They are 'half as quick' as 205's, albeit not half as quick as heavily modified 205's, but a moderatley modified JDM 185 will waste any other n/a celica all day long including a stock 205. a heavily modified 185 will eat most 205's for brekkie. granted they arent 'that much quicker' but lets not hypothosise what a 185 is or isnt without first getting behind the wheel first. Ive drove all 3 GT4's. each in various stages.

Bling Blong.

Plenty of 185's running in the 13's.

Billybobooth - I know its exciting and all, i did the same thing when i bought my first celica, came on posting about top speeds etc, but dont get carried away. Unless the car is beams you've about as much chance of beating a 'real' 185 gtfour as my gran on a skateboard.

5800rpm at 130 mph sounds about right for a SS2.

Heh, give me some twisties and i'll make a supra feel like its going backwards.

i have been behind the wheel of an st185 and was very disappointed. as standard they aint that fast. Granted spend £100 on it and it will make a hell of difference.

my gt has been dyno tested at 142 bhp at the wheels and also had it doin the same in mph.

it isnt big and its not funny and i wouldnt advise anyone to do it.

BUT ***** IT WAS FUN :D

any ideas what the estimated transmission losses are then for the gt/ss2. my estimates were very approx

compared to my old 202 when i drove the 205 i shat myself , there just aint any comparison at all . forget about transmission loss its all about turbo lag , the gt4 st205 is awesome.

transmission loss? who cares when the car pulls like a train, just up the horses and loss is neglible.

I tested a stock import 205 and it was pants compared to my 185.

I dont know what a stock 185 feels like but it wouldnt be that much quicker than a 202 3SGE in a straight line. Kevstir did a 15.7 qtr mile in his GT which is about .4 seconds behind a stock 185, however his GT has a couple of mods.

A JDM 185 comes with more horsies out of the box thanks to japanese tweeks, add to that a 3" down pipe, MHG, 3" exhaust, Boost control and high flow panel filter and you'll very nearly break into the 13 second barrier 1/4 mile on stock fueling and stock turbo. Thats moderate modifying.

Faster than ANY other NA Celica in a straight line and on the twisties by design.

add to that a digital controlled engine management system, remap, stage 2 turbo, uprated charge cooling, fuel pump, injectors, CAI heatshield dam with ram air bumper scoop and run in the 12's. thats Ferrari 360 Modena territory.

Transmission loss? one word Turbo = Torque.

strapping a turbo to a 2 liter 4 pot makes it perform like a V8 as soon as that turbo spools and rods start hammering the crank.

Fours Rock, not just because i have one, but because they just do. My 185 is only moderatley modified and wastes a G7 190.

my stock 205 does me and it would take some mighty mods on a 202 to match it.Sounds like ur 185 has had some mighty mods there carlos , must be like the old brown stuff off a shovel , well done buddy.:thumbsup:

not mighty, just moderate, not quite Modena territory.......

but

my 165 rev 2 C.Sainz engine and rebuilt transmission powered project is expecting torque to peak at least the 320 mark before 4K rpm. thats Modena territory!!!!

Not many 205's can claim that and ive certainly never heard of a 202 with more than 200 at the crank.

With the kind of torque i'm looking at having at the demand of my right foot, the transmission loss will be a mere equation and i expect to never have the need to see any more than 5K rpm.

All that in a grandaddy Celica GT4 powered by 185 components.

......................ok, shall i shut up about 185 power now? have i made my point :wink: .......................

185 transmission loss is between 20-25%, 205 is a little better. both are heavier than a 202.

i reckon a NA FWD loses about 15-20%..... hmmm, nitrous would sort that, 50hp to 75 hp jeets - direct port progressive highpower wet system from the wizards. if you have over a grand spare.

but to catch my 185 i reccomend at least a 100hp nozzles and possibly an uprated fuel pump

Ive just stripped a USA race use only Nitrous Works wet kit from my 162 convertible, full throttle controlled, the bottle is still 75% full and i have jet nozzles up to 100hp, if anyone wants to strap it onto their 202 for a laugh at elvington or york, let me know and i'll happily oblige, all we need is a fuel feed bolt with an extra hole and have the option to ignore transmission loss, normally reserved for GT4 owners. The 162 had 50hp jets, 145hp at the crank stock and was dyno'd at 205BHP at 6,000rpm on silly gas :D

I aint allowed to discuss selling mate, im not a paid member.

I may be using it in the 165 for silly power for the drag strip, but the car is primarily being built for point to point and hill climbs.

I'll let you know if I ever decide to sell it though.

this is the kit http://www.barrygrant.com/, its the nozzle system (power wing 1400 kit, 25 - 100hp) less than a year old, was used 3 times and was fitted for 3 months.
