did you say you going up a hill?

That makes it a torque issue.

Get it looked at anyway. No harm in that.

Is your handbrake still on? :D

Seriously though, drive it on the flat say 20mph and then press the clutch in, coaster to a halt.. Your speed should not drop rapidly unless there is somehing restricting it.

There's no harm in having a second opinion on it, but bear in mind if you're going from a 1.3 to a 1.0 there is bound to be some difference in torque. There is only so much you can ask of 1000cc so be patient with it.

The 1.0 litre engine in the Yaris has got loads of torque, (especially at the higher rev range......thats what the VVTi is all about)

You do not have to be patient with the 1.0 litre....it asks to be revved.

Off topic: Weald Park? I went there last Sunday - love it there, definately agree with there being a lot of hills.

My 1.0L never struggled like that - it might have a fuel blockage somewhere or something? hope you get it sorted.

I'm American, sorry.

Anything that takes 14 seconds to get to 60 mph requires patience in my opinion.

But I realize the standards are different there. You could not sell a 1.0 Yaris here, it would be run over by the 8 liter SUV's going 180 kmh on the entry ramp to the motorway.

I know you're not in America, but lets not pretend 14 seconds is fast or a 1.0 has lots of power. We put engines bigger than 1.0 in motorcycles.

hey guys,

:censor: it got worse today, was driving round to see if the problem had gone, it had until it decided to do it again and struggle to go up streets and round corners, but this time it got WORSE. my car started SMOKING!!! had to stop the car cos i had to get into 1st gear cos it wouldnt go up the hill!

i let the car cool and setted off again, then i could smell really bad rubber/burning smell throughtout the car. befor i got home i had to pull up and stop 3times. :crybaby:

finally parked in my drive and calld the garage straight away, he came down 5mins ago and when he drove it was fine so iv got it booked at garage for wed anyway ill sort it out then until then am worried sik! :( when i checkd th front to wheel trims wer burning HOT and the passenger one had popped itself out from one corner! and the smell was coming near them and also i noticed a slight squeeling sound comin when i drove the carafter i saw it smoking. the mechanic said that the squeling was the exhaust shield but i had never noticed it befor but he said hel check it out when he takes it to the garage and pops it on the ramp

if anyone has any ideas or its happend to them leyt me know so i can giv the guys at the garage an idea of what it might be.

sounds like the brakes are sticking on, is there a lot of black dust on the wheels and wheel trims? (on the inside). this could also explain why its a tad on the slow side.

 that doesnt sound good! I would be worried to drive it if that happened to me..where was the smoke coming from?

-the brakes are VERY sharp, i just have to tap the brake and the car comes to a stop

- YES there is black dust on the 2 front trims of the car

-both the front to wheel trims hearted up badly

-smoke came out from near the front two wheels

when im on a hill and i stop the car even when the handbrake is down and my foot is no where near the brake pedal, i noticed that the car neither rolls forward or backwards depending on which way im on the hil, i noticed that today and was amazed, but didnt think anything of it.

im gonna not drive the car as much as i do incase it does get worse but if your sayin that its definately the brakes stickin EARPL then what do you think i need to do, or tell the garage?

I'm no expert on technical stuff, but yeah the car should move if the handbrake is off and your foot isnt on the brake! Mine sure does :D

Sounds like the brakes need adjusting/cleaning. On my old T3 the front driverside brake was "binding" and producing a long squeek/squeal, took her back to MrT (as I didnt know it was binding obviously), and they found the problem, cleaned the brake and readjusted it too - so it could be something similar with yours.

The burning/smoke could be where the brake pads are against the wheel and there is friction or something building up, creating the heat and heating the pads way too high.

the calipers want taking off, the fluid wants draining and the "pots" (cylinders) need greasing, you can get cylinder grease any where. proberly a new set off pads whilst your down there. it also helps to copper grease where the wings of the pads slide on the caliper. this helps to stop them sticking and makes it easier to get them off when you next change them + you may aswell have the fluid changed whilst your at it.
