Hello everyone!!!

I bought my first car on Thursday and went for a Nov 2002 1.0 VVT-i GS Yaris. Its only done 13.5k miles, and I got it for £5000 from my local Toyota Jemca dealer - and he's throwing in new wheel trims and mats :-) What you think?

I actually get the car next Friday, and I can't wait!!!!!!!

I've got a couple of questions about the yaris, and if anyone knows the answers, I'd be really grateful if you could post them here. Firstly, what size wheels come with my car? Secondly, it comes with key central locking, is there any way I can get it changed to remote control central locking? Thirdly, is it easy to install a mobile phone car-kit on the yaris? Finally, if I were to install a cd player onto the yaris, would i be able to have the existing cassette radio and the new cd player both plugged into the Speakers (so that I have the option of cd or cassette)??

Thanks for any help you can give me. I'm soooooooo excited to get the car!!!!! :D

I can answer two of the questions for you;

Normally the wheels come in at a standard 13". Bit piddly really, but hey, that's Toyota's choice.

Secondly, if you want to install a CD player, you will have to forfeit the Cassette player. You can't have both connected up to the Speakers in my understanding. I could be proved wrong though.

And i wouldn't imgine that it's difficult to install a hands free kit in the car to be honest!

You can have the optional extra cd player installed at the same time which goes in the slot at the bottom and may be available on bay every now and then but they are rare because people usually order the cd player so that it is builtinto the main dash already and in my case had the tape deck as the optional extra.

Hi Lewis and welcome to TOC! :thumbsup:

I believe you can go to Mr T and get remote central locking fitted, but I dont think its very cheap!

And I think Paphos & Jay are right - the normal steel wheels are 13", then the alloys on the CDX/T-Spirit model are 14" and the T-Sport alloys are 15" - but hey - brand new wheel trims cant be bad! :thumbsup:

You will love your Yaris too much! :D

Of course you can have both the cd and cassete working. As someone has mentioned there is a empty slot beneath the casseste player. The cd unit fits in there. And if you look at the button you use to turn the cassete on it says something like cassete:CD. It will alternate between the two. My first GLS yaris came with cassete and i had a toyota CD player fitted. Now got the option but never use cassete!

Hi.. and welcome to toc.

I too have a 1.0l GS on a 2001 plate though... the wheels should be 14" as standard with 175/65x14 Tyres (Goodyear GT2's most likely)

To keep your original sound system AND adding a cd player.. I installed a 10 disc MP3 Multichanger (mounted in the boot) via an FM Modulator, all you do is tune it into a suitable radio station :thumbsup: (not the best quality sound.. but ok for what my needs are)

Getting Toyota to put in Remote Centrl Locking will be expensive... get a CAT 1 alarm system installed.. that way you will have central locking and possibly a discount on your insurance to boot.
