Short Engine

Hi all,

I have a 1.8 vvti GS 51 reg and was wondering if anyone knows how much a SHORT engine would cost for one of these. I`m having an ongoing correspondance with Toyota with regards to the oil consumption issue and would like to know how much a 'SHORT' would cost and with fitting? Any rough ideas would be great! This could mean the difference bewteen me keeping or getting rid of my car as I plan to keep it for at least another 6 years unless I can get this sorted one way or another.

***More problems now the gearbox is making a whinning/clacking noise. Could this be the thrust bearing?? Yet more problems and its only done 40,000

Thanks!

From what I've managed to find out, the shortblock on its own is about £700+VAT from toyota. I hate to think how much toyota maindealers would want for fitting it though !! :o

Got letter back from Toyota about my oil consumption problem-but no joy within spec. I`m wondering wether to keep the car or get rid of it. I worried that the problem will get worse a few years down the line and I`ll end up paying for an engine strip down or new engine - mega bucks!!! :o It uses around a litre of oil in 7,000 miles. It doesnt sound alot but when you take the one spark plug out and its covered in oil I get get seriously worried. 9,300 pounds for a car which I`ve had for just over 2 years thinking it will last a long time trouble free as its a Toyota (well thats what I used to think)! Its heart breaking.

Any thoughts/ ideas anyone might have please feel free to reply as I`m ready to launch the thing off the nearest cliff :ffs:

What exactly is the problem? A litre of oil in 7000 miles is hardly excessive. If you're not happy now you never will be. Sell it and move on. But don't buy a VW or Audi if you're worried about a litre every 7000 miles. Remember that if you bought the car used you're at the mercy of whoever 'ran it in' in the first place. If you pussyfoot a modern engine too much you end up with high oil consumption. Try getting the tach past the 12'o clock position on up-changes for month, then see how the engine is behaving. If it uses more oil by month two of this experiment, sell it.
