High Revs = Harmful?

I got a 1.0L Automatic,

Now if you need to overtake really really quick...only thing you can do is...floor it..completely :D

So I do that, and from 1st to 2nd gear it doesn't change gear fast. (for better accelleration)

It revs very very high, screams and screams  ... is that harmful for the engine or are they made to go into high revs?

Its only harmed the engine if its blown up!

Nahh seriously - high revs won't hurt the engine, sometimes you need high revs, like you say, for overtaking and stuff, sometimes you just gotta floor it to get past....

I suppose its different in an auto as the car chooses when to change, unlike a manual where you choose - I'm sure the car wont hurt itself on purpose!

constant high revs wears out the engine quicker and is never good for any car, revving occasionally and wen u want to is ok and better for the car.

it is also best to use higher revs after the car has been moving for 10mins or so, so its had time to warm up. imagine waking up in the morn and going for a mile run immediately, not gona happen!

I guess you're right, they're aren't stupid little cars with a death wish :D But it hurts you hearing it scream :P

Jay, yeah its never a good idea to over-rev a cold engine~

I usually gear change into 5th at around 3500/4000 rpm - the car definately prefers it and doesnt scream too much.

I'm a relaxed driver, and prefer NOT to floor the car or treat her harshly unless neccessary - the other day I did floor her when over taking but that was the first time ever..as long as it's not constant I don't see that it can cause any harm, every car likes to be properly "driven" occasionally I guess ;)
