yep...

the stats on the new IS220 suggest the engine will have 400Nm of torque - compare that to the BMW M3, which has 369NM..

Oh, and its a diesel ;)

okay, so comparing the horsepower figures isnt as impressive (175bhp vs 338bhp), but as you know, you talk bhp, but drive torque

not strictly true but with simplifications....

Power = RPM x Torque

There is no subsitute for horse power. Because the M3 doesn't have as much torque, it could run a shorter gear ratio and still have the same torque at the wheels.

The advantage to having bucket loads of torque is fewer gear changes and better fuel consumption because the engine does not need to rev as high.

Diesels always have more torque...

A diesel Lexus is just wrong... they will be making FWD ones next <_<

Re the entire BHP/torque thing, thats <the spuds of lurrrrvve>s.. Its all about power delivery :D wide power bands, flat torque curves etc etc.

There are motorbike engines with more bhp then car engines, but pput that engine in a heavier car and it will barely move!!!

the 1JZ-GTE is a most amazing engine because of its power delivery etc... the BHP and torque fugures in them selves ar enot THAT impressive... its the way they are used... -it has an incredibly short stroke and an almost flat torque curve, -it revs very freely and gives it a huge powerband... thats why a soarer TT can out drag and out run a Carrara with less weight, more bhp and more torque :lol:

Unfortunately this "coming together" of poer bands etc is almost impossible to quantify and measure... but BMEP can be helpfull in working it out ;)

VTEC is still :censor:

At least it doesn't have the image problem that the M3 has :thumbsup:

I'll still never forget my girlfriend driving my car, around the nurburgring when it was totally lashing it down...

Overtaking a new shape m3 sideways :lol:

I wish I could have seen his face!

Having said that, I'm sure there was more emotion on mine :lol::lol:
