alrite guys,

another question for ye's, as you can guess im new to this thing. bought my first car there (a corolla of course) and never done any mods to any cars before, so im just looking for some advice here.

my corolla is a E11, and im wondering how much i could lower my car without any arch work if i had 16"/17"

would lowering 30mm with 17" be ok without scobing or required arch work? <_<

cheers :D

17's (as will be fitted with a 205 tyre) will catch rear arch, regardless whether you lower or not.

16 inch, if you can find a 195/50 R16 Tyre (as opposed to 205/45 R16 tyre) will clear but 16 inch tyres actually cost more than 17inch tyres. I quote 195/50 R16 Tyre to keep rolling radius the same/speedo reading etc. Although most packages come with a 195/45 R16 Tyre (the tyre is a little cheaper than a 195/50 R16 tyre) which would be aplicable for rolling radius of pre '97 Corollas.

My rolla is lowered 40 mm with 17 inch alloys and ive never had any real trouble with the arches or anything. The only time there has been any rubbing was when i had 3 in the back and i was driving at a fair speed down a bumpy country lane.

I've got 17's 205/40/R17 on mine (1997 G6) with rear arches partially rolled.

My standard suspension lets it travel too much so it catches with 2x 17stoners upfront and just 1x17stoner in the back.

Full loaded (x5) a 30min journey took 1hour (and that's not a guestimate, that was Friday night).

With uprated dampers and springs it will probably only happen fully loaded.

I have my G6R lowered 40mm with 17" on it. It does catch on one arch but i've spotted that the only reason it does this is that the arch lip is uneven at one point so this is causing the rubbing. other than that its no bother.

So like I said, for normal everyday use (full car/ lugage in the boot) they will catch :)

Im prob just going to get mine rolled soon to be on the safe side as looking into getting adjustables before JAE.

Ive got 17's with 40 mm profile tyres. standard suspension and no rubbing on back with 35 stone of people in rear + full boot.

Catches occasionally on front if at full lock and moving to quickly.

One thing you really need to consider is the wheel offset. My 1998 AE111 has drum brakes on the rear and the original 15" alloys that came with the car from the factory had an offset of 42mm. I was sold a set of 38mm offset 16" wheels with205 tyres and it scrubbed regularly with suspension lowered by 20mm. I now have 16" 40mm offset wheels with 195 tyres and a drop of 30mm and the arches still had to be modified to stop scrubbing. I don't think these problems occur to the same extent on theose Corollas that have rear disc brakes.

I thought it was 14inch that came with car originally?

Sometimes I run 15inch wheels (with 195/55 R15 tyres) on my 1998 Corolla with an offset (according to TSW) of 35mm (35mm is even stamped on back edge of rim), and have no scrubing of arches.

Opps a typo slipped in there. Yes they were 14" with 42mm offset.

It's okay 'cause I had the same Wolfrace 'racelite' wheels on my '98 Corolla, but didn't realise they were 42mm offset. Also they were fitted on a MK1 MR2 afterwards with no problems.

I only found out when the wheels supplied to me with a 38mm offset caused a lot of scrubbing - I should have checked BEFORE spending my cash :ffs:

hi guys i recently posted a simular topic and afta every1's comment i decided to go for the 17" so off i went to wheel worx. i still had doubts bout arch scrubbin but once i had them on i was well chuffed so neway i decide to do the test find a bigger enough car parke and put full lock on both ways and didn't catch so then i got a car full and the only time they caught was when the road was bumpy but their was a combine weight off about 45 stone thats include the ice install. so i wasn't to fussed but the ride cud do with getting lowerd but i wud need my arches rollin. my tyre size is 205/40/17 and i own a 2001 corolla

so do you reckon if you where supplied you with 42mm offset in the first place you would've no problems at all?

so, if i went for some 17" wheels, 205/40/17 with 42mm offset for my 98 Corolla (not lowered, yet) will they fit without any problem?

sorry for sounding so dumb, its just i havent got a clue about offsets and that! :D
