Indicators

Hi

I've got a year old Yaris. The problem is that the Indicators do not always self cancel which can prove to be quite dangerous if you don't notice. The main dealer seems to think this in normal :censor:

Any Ideas

It is normal - I think they only activate at a certain degree angle so for a very small degree angle they wont cancel.... but I think thats the same on most cars.

Yeah, thats right. They are set at a certain point. Mine turn off though at a round about near me. I have to turn left slightly to appoach it and even if i'm going right the signal gets turned off!

You sould be aware enough to know when the signal is on anyway. I dont understand how people can miss them.

If you've got a few people in the car, musics going, and as with most modern cars, the indicator is fairly quiet, people can miss them... Personnally i have fairly good peripheral vision, so if it goes off i tend to notice it... Well on the Polo i was driving before anyway..

I understand how people miss it though

So that means they have a distraction in the car. What if they get distracted and something serious happens? Lots of people in the car talking and music will take their mind off from driving. Your supose to concentrate 100%.

And if they cant hear the signal then they wont hear when an emergency vechile is coming from behind - therefore they'll get in the way. I see alot of that and it annoys me.

Erm... yeah i concentrate when driving, and have never had a problem with indicators going off without me noticing... I never have music loud anyway, let alone loud enough to drown out a emergency vehicle, and as you said i'd off seen it beforehand anyway.... You can't honestly say though when you have a passenger or a few, you sit with no music on in silence..... Chill lol

I'm cool. I wasn't pointing anything at you. And i do have music, nor is it loud. But it just seems part of driving to me. If someone forgets to make sure that the indcator is off then they might as well say i forget to turn off steering lock as well!

Maybe its just me but i look at the speedo after pretty much everthing. Just like your ment to check ya mirrors all the time.

I'm sure i fail one part of driving where someone else blossoms tho i doubt it coz i pass first time and got 35 out ot 35 on my theory.

Anyway, i'm gunna shut up coz i dont want to offend anyone.

I usually have my tunes blazing, I can concentrate on drivin with them on without any problems whatsoever. I cant hear the indicator but the sound of emergency services is a hell of a lot louder than an indicator & even if I couldnt hear them, the blue flashing lights are a bit of a give-away.

Yeah but my original point was that if someone couldn't even get a grip on a signal how are they gunna manage with other aspects of driving?

Anyone watched the programme recently about elderely drivers on BBC1?

Too right Steve!

Although I would like to add that my Grandad is in his 70's and is an excellent driver - never had an accident in over 50 years!

Although thats probably more luck than anything!

When pdyaris mentioned not noticing the signal being on i thort about that porgramme which is why i've been going on!

Some couldn't manage simple things therefore shouldn't be driving and not being able to manage the signal is one of them in my opinion.

Tho i'm sure pdyaris can and they just highlighted the fact that some poeple might forget about it.

Seen it done as people move into the 3rd lane of the M1 and keep signalling to go right as if they are about to crash into the central reservation!

BLOOMING ROUNDABOUTS!!!

Yep... they cancel too quick there..... im used to it now though, i just keep flicking them back on.

I have music.... nice and loud. I know when my indicators are on, i know when they aren't. I know where im going, i know where the other drivers are going, i can see emergency vehicles. I don't look at the speedo after everything.... i adjust my speed to the road and conditions, i look at my mirrors when necessary, i can park very well, i can reverse, i can operate all the controls in my car whilst moving, i can drive at 60mph in pitch black on country roads whithout blinding other drivers, i can drive on the motorway in the correct lane at the correct speed, i can see hazards ahead, i can yell abuse at sh*t drivers out of the window....

Believe it or not.... i can drive! I learnt well, i passed with 100% on my theory, i only had 3 minors on my test which i passed first time and i love being in my car on the roads.

This isn't any sort of a boast, it's a simple list of what everyone should be able to do behind the wheel of their car. If they can't... they need more lessons.

Not so much about the non-cancelling of the inidcators but is it just me or are they dead ugly! I'm not sure if they're the same design on all models but they just stick out quite a distance and look ugly! Is it some law to do with their visibility clashing with the shape of the car and so they need to be on a bean pole? Has anyone gone about changing them? i have seen the smoked ones you can buy and peoples DIY attempts and they all seem a step in the right direction. Has anyone actually changed them with a successfully pleasant output?
