I HAVE JUST FITTED A NEW CAM BELT TO MY GRANNY, i am no mechanic or typist,

anyway,

it was not difficult to do, and i needed no special tools for the job except a large vice that opened to about 6 inches,

remove anything in your way such as the under engine sound proofing, the first part of the air intake, and the air con drive belt, remove the cam belt cover,, turn the engine with the starter motor till the timing mark on the overhead cam wheel is pointing to 12,oclock and the fuel pump timing mark is at 3 oclock, (important) mark all pulleys to the casing with tippex so if anything does move you can re set it, remove the hydrolic tensioner, with 2 ten mill bolts and 1 allen key, when you remove the hydrolice tensioner you will be supprised that it just comes of without any jumping or sudden move ments, remove old belt carfully, fit new belt, with care,, now the important bit, the hydrolic tensioner, compress this in a vice, you wil see a set of holes that will line up, put a nail or a pin through the holes to hold the piston in position,, with the new belt in place now fit the tensioner, when you have it all tightened up, remove the pin carefully and slowly,re fit all pannels etc,,,,,,,job completed, any further info please contact me on,

i hope you can understand this, as this is the first time that i have made a posting like this before,

Hi Scorpiomann,

Useful info - just one thing to add. It's very important to turn the engine a complete cycle ( 2 turns of crankshaft) by hand after fitting the tensioner, to check that the timing marks line up and nothing's moved. Having said that, isn't it a doddle of a job compared with most engines - all that pulley and belt removal and struggling from top to bottom of the engine!

By the way, I think you posted a reply to one of my queries on another subject, but it didn't appear under the "quote".
