A Question Knowledgeable People.....

An acquaintance of mine asked me a question the other day, and being as i couldnt confidently answer it myself, i thought i'd see if anyone here might have an idea.

The sitution is that my mate has recently acquired an old Datsun (260z?? not sure) and was interested as to whether it is (1) possible, and if so how much it would cost, to install modern amenities, such as power steering, air con, brighter healdlamps, etc? and (2) Is it possible, and once again, if so how much it would cost, to fit a more powerful modern engine into it?

I'm sure my friend would greatly appreciate any info/help! Cheers

I can't actually advise but with regards to "what engine and can it be done" then the answer is always yes but at what price!

Also you seem to think its an early Datsun 'Z' (240, 260). If i was your friend I would try and keep the original Power Unit and tune that, for in it's day there were many tuning products such as 'triple' carbs (weber which are still available). These engines (especially when tuned) are still very quick even by todays standard.

As for powersteering, I seem to think the ones sold in America did have power steering.

Also do you really drive a 70's GT car expecting to have powersteering?

I have seena 240Z with a Toyota 2.5 twin turbo 1JZ-GTE engine....

I know these left the factory with powersteering and aircon pumps......

Anything is possible, but there will be a price!!!!

One of the places my dad goes to to get work done on his classic cars an Arab sheik (or some one from those parts with lots of money) had an Original Rolls Royce phantom in (Very old!) and was having aircon and powersteering fitted to that!

I'm not so sure it wasn;ta factory option.... - if E type Jags had it why not a 240Z?
